With all of the big names going into Black Panther such as Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o, and Michael B. Jordan, it’s not hard to forget Forest Whitaker is in the film. In case you did, here’s your reminder. He recently dropped a tease in an interview with Variety about some things we can expect to see in Black Panther including some space travel.
"It's a unique piece. It's a cultural piece. I think people are waiting to find something new to be able to live in, and this superhero from Africa who is in this society and trying to fix the world is something that people have not received before. I think Ryan is a great director, so there's always going to be some social conscience inside of it, and at the same time the action and things we haven't seen."
He went on to reveal:
"We're gonna see not only travel things but things that take us into outer space and things that take us into the James Bond space. It's a really unique amalgamation of different things that come together in an exciting way,"
When you stop to think about it, that’s not too crazy of an idea; after all, Wakanda is the most advanced nation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it could be part of the setup for Avengers: Infinity War which is the next MCU film to come out. I just never expected space to be part of the film.
It’s also interesting to note that Whitaker also mentions a “James Bond space” to this film which supports what director Ryan Coogler has said before. What role will space travel play for Black Panther? Will it be part of the main story or something to tie into Infinity War?
Black Panther will be in theaters February 16, 2018.
