It looks like the producers have their sights set on director Danny Boyle to helm Bond 25! According to Variety, no offer has been made yet, but “Boyle has keen interest in the project and has always wanted to direct a Bond film.” Apparently, MGM has also been keen on getting Boyle on board a 007 film for years. It seems like the stars are aligning to make this happen.
Boyle, who has directed Trainspotting, 128 Hours, Sunshine, and Slumdog Millionaire, is a great choice to take on James Bond! If Christopher Nolanisn’t interested in doing it, Boyle is perfect. I’ve always thought that it would be cool to see him make a Bond movie and now there’s a chance it might actually happen!
Boyle is developing another project at the moment, but there’s no cast attached to it and it can easily be pushed back to make room for Bond 25 if he needs to.
Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role again, which was a big surprise to a lot of fans, especially after all the negative stuff he said about not wanting to play the character again. I was kind of hoping for a new actor to take on James Bond, but if Boyle ends up directing Craig in the film it could turn out pretty awesome.
What do you all think about The possibility of Boyle directing Bond 25?
Paramount Pictures is ready to get the ball rolling on their Dungeons and Dragons movie! According to Variety, the studio has found the director that they want to hire for the film.
Chris McKay, the guy who directed The LEGO Batman Movie and the upcoming Nightwing movie, is in negotiations with the studio to helm the fantasy adventure film. He must’ve had a pretty impressive pitch! He’s still a relatively new feature film director, who got his big break working on Robot Chicken, so to be landing these huge movie gigs for these big budget tentpole films, he must be quite the pitch man!
I loved what he did with The LEGO Batman Movie, but will he be able to kick ass with live-action films like Nightwing and Dungeons and Dragons? I guess we’ll find out!
The script for the movie is being written by Michael Gillio and Hasbro is said to have a big hand in the creative process of the film. This will be one of the first movies to be produced by AllSpark Pictures, which is pretty much Hasbro’s movie production company. They hope to transform themselves into a major player competing with the likes of Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment.
Paramount is also developing a few other projects with Hasbro including a G.I. Joe movie reboot, M.A.S.K., and Micronauts. They will also reboot the Transformers franchise after Bumblebee: The Movie.
What do you think about Chris McKay directing Dungeons and Dragons? What are you hoping to see from this movie? I just hope it gets an epic Lord of the Rings style level of quality.
If you’re keeping up to date on all of the rumors around Aquaman, you may have heard one that said Nereus and Mera would have a different kind of relationship than in the New 52 comics. That rumor has been confirmed as fact. In the New 52 comics, Mera and Nereus are would-be lovers, but according to Dolph Lundgren, they will be father and daughter. Talking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Lundgreen was asked a bit about his role in the film and he mentions this relationship:
Well, there’s a twist for some fans. What do you think about this change in their relationship?
CBS has found their star for the Magnum P.I. series reboot that they've been developing. Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad, Bright) will take on the role of Thomas Magnum, who was played by Tom Selleck in the original series. Hernandez is no Selleck, but we'll see how this ends up.
In the series, Thomas Magnum is a "decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator."
I enjoyed the original series and Tom Selleck was great in it. Hernandez has some big shoes to fill. The series is being developed by Peter Lenkov, who is the writer and producer behind current CBS reboots of Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver. Eric Guggenheim, an executive producer and writer on Hawaii Five-O, will also write and executive produce.
I never got into the Hawaii Five-O reboot. I watched the first few episodes but it just never grabbed me. I imagine that will be the result with Magnum P.I. seeing that it's coming from the same creative team. However, Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond, Fast and Furious) will direct the pilot, so we'll see how it goes.
What do you think about Jay Hernandez taking on the lead role of Magnum P.I.?
I've been following Walton Goggins' career ever since I first watched him in The Shield. He has since had a pretty successful career staring in Justified, The Hateful Eight, and the upcoming Tomb Raider movie just to name a few.
He's a fun actor that takes on great roles and he just landed a perfect role in CBS' upcoming series adaptation of James Ellroy’s 1990 noir novel L.A. Confidential. Goggins will play detective Jack Vincennes, who is described as follows:
“All swagger and flash with a movie star smile, Jack knows how the system works and uses it to his best advantage, including some corrupt shakedowns on the side.”
This character was previously played by Kevin Spacey in the 1997 Curtis Hanson-directed film adaptation of the book. The series will reportedly follow "three homicide detectives, a female reporter and a Hollywood actress. The detectives are following a serial killer who is operating in Los Angeles in the 1950s."
I read the book years ago and I loved it. I'm actually really curious about seeing how this series turns out. The series will be produced by Oscar-winner Arnon Milchan, who produced the original film, as well as Jordan Harper, who works on Gotham.
Ellroy has four novels in his "L.A. Quartet" series that are set in Los Angeles in the 1940s and 1950s. His other novels include The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere and White Jazz.
Here is the official description of the L.A. Confidential book:
L.A. Confidential is epic 'noir', a crime novel of astonishing detail and scope written by the bestselling author of The Black Dahlia. A horrific mass murder invades the lives of victims and victimizers on both sides of the law. And three lawmen are caught in a deadly spiral, a nightmare that tests loyalty and courage, and offers no mercy, grants no survivors.
If this series does well, maybe CBS will end up adapting all of these novels into series. If you haven' read any of them, you totally should!
Last week we learned that Bruno Bichir (Narcos) was cast in the role of The Chief in DC's live action Titans series. The Chief is a member of The Doom Patrol and he will be joined by Rita Farr, a.k.a. Elasti-Girl. According to EW, the character will be played by Drop Dead Diva alum April Bowlby.
The Doom Patrol is a group of superheroes similar to the Titans, but they’re not really happy with how they ended up getting superpowers. When it comes to Elasti-Firl, she was an actress on the rise, before she "was exposed to a toxic gas that altered her cellular structure — which, in the comics, allows her to expand or shrink her body at will. Longing for the days of old, Rita finds a place for herself among The Doom Patrol."
We still have yet to see what other members of The Doom Patrol end up in the series. Bowlby will join Brenden Thwaites as Robin, Ryan Potter in the role of Beast Boy, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, and Lindsey Gort as Police Detective Amy Rohrbach, Alan Ritchson as Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dove. The series is being written by Akiva Goldsman, DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti and this is the previously released synopsis:
Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire (Diop), Raven (Croft) and others.
Titans is set to debut on DC’s upcoming digital service sometime in 2018. Bowlby will next appear in an arc on the upcoming series remake of Heathers.
If you are a fan of Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy, you might be happy to hear that Ocean's 8 is going to have more cameos from those original films than we thought. We already knew that Matt Damon was going to show up in the film, but in a recent interview with The Toronto Sun, the actor reveals that there are a few others who will pop up. He says:
"It's just a very small cameo. I'm not really in the movie a lot. ... I think there are a few of us who pop up really quickly."
I just assumed that George Clooney would be back as Danny Ocean considering the movie revolves around his sister. He's also producing the film. However, it would be fun to see Brad Pitt as Rusty, Carl Reiner as Saul Bloom, Don Cheadle as Basher, and the rest of the crew.
Ocean's 8 looks like it will be a ton of fun and I'm looking forward to watching it. You can check out the trailer for the film here.
The story follows Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), the sister of Danny, as she attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. To be able to pull this off she assembles the perfect crew, which consists of Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson). Their target is Daphne Kluger, who is played by Anne Hathaway.
James Corden will play an insurance investigator, and Dakota Fanning also has a role in the movie. Other cameos include Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Anna Wintour, Adriana Lima and Katie Holmes.
Ocean's 8 will be released in theaters on June 8th, 2018.
Netflix has released a new trailer for Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 2 and in it, Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is attempting to deal with her dark and tragic past. She's even going to anger management, but as you'll see, it's not really doing her much good. At the same time, she digs deep inside herself and finds the hero within and the desire to use her powers to help do some good in the world and help those that she loves.
This is an awesome new trailer and if you're excited about this upcoming second season of Jessica Jones, you're going to love this. Along with some new footage from Season 2, the trailer also includes a lot of stuff from Season 1.
Jessica Jones is a hard-drinking, short-fuse, mess of a woman who is just trying to make a living as a Private Investigator in New York City. She’s super strong but is haunted by a dark past that keeps her from truly becoming a hero.
Jessica Jones Season 2 will hit Netflix on March 8th.
One of my most anticipated new series of the year is Ridley Scott's AMC anthology The Terror. This series looks absolutely amazing and today we have a behind-the-scenes featurette that you've got to watch! But first, if you haven't watched the trailer yet, check that out here. The featurette focuses on the cast and creators as they examine how "fact and fiction blend to create dread and danger in this haunting, suspenseful drama."
The Terror is set in the 1840s and if revolves around the terrifying story of two ships from the Royal Navy who are not only forced to survive the treacherous conditions of the Arctic, but they are also being hunted by an unseen terror in the night.
The series is based on the novel by Dan Simmons’ which was inspired by the true story of Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror to the Arctic in 1845–1848. This is a fictionalized version of the story and it looks like it's going to be an awesome series! Here's the synopsis:
Inspired by a true story, The Terror centers on the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage into unchartered territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, The Terror highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other.
The series is said to capture "a rare combination of fascinating history, complex and flawed characters, the inextinguishable human spirit and the horror and promise of an uncharted world."
The ten-episode show also has an amazing cast that include Jared Harris (The Crown, Mad Men) as Captain Francis Crozier; Tobias Menzies (Outlander) as Captain James Fitzjames; Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Sir John Franklin; Paul Ready (Cuffs) as Dr. Henry Goodsir; Adam Nagaitis (Suffragette) as Cornelius Hickey; Nive Nielsen (The New World) as Lady Silence; Ian Hart (Neverland) as Thomas Blanky; and Trystan Gravelle (Mr. Selfridge) as Henry Collins.
The Terror will premiere with a special two-hour debut on Monday, March 26th.
