A few weeks ago it was reported that Peter Jackson was in the process of deciding if he should make a DC film for Warner Bros. or jump on board the new Lord of the Rings series being developed by Amazon. Turns out, he isn't interested in directing a DC movie, but he is kind of helping out with the LOTR series.
the French entertainment site Allocine, Jackson was asked about these future projects that had fans excited, and when addressing The Lord of the Rings series with them, he said:
"I’m not involved at all in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series. I understand how my name could come up, but there is nothing happening with me on this project."
It was previously reported that Jackson was welcome to come on board and help with the series if he wanted to, and it actually looks like he is. He ended up making a revised statement with IGN’s German site saying that he's putting together a creative team for the series:
"I had a phone conversation with Amazon on that one — I think that was over a year ago and it sounded like they were doing the right thing [with the show], they have very good intentions with it, it all sounds very fascinating and exciting. However, I would not want to be the one responsible for the entire TV series, simply because I’ve never been responsible for a [long-term] series like this before in my life. So it would not be very smart if I took on the role of showrunner. What I’m actually doing right now is putting the creative team [behind the series] together."
So, that's cool! He may not be heavily involved with the project, but he's building a team that can help pull it off. As for the DC film project, he's not even a fan of comic books, so something like that doesn't interest him at all.
"That’s not true. I had no discussions about that. I’m not a fan of comics, I’ve never read any, so I’m not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That’s not true at all."
We know that Jackson is a fan of at least one comic... The Adventures of Tintin, but I imagine that in this statement he's referring to comics from Marvel and DC.
As a fan of Jackson, I'm a little bummed out by this update, but I'm sure he'll eventually jump in to direct a new film project and I can't wait to see what that will be. I the meantime, I'll be looking forward to Mortal Engines, which Jackson co-wrote and produced.
Director Quentin Tarantino has added a bunch of great new cast members to his upcoming film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He has brought on Luke Perry,Damian Lewis, Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Clifton Collins Jr., Keith Jefferson and Nicholas Hammond in supporting roles. They will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Burt Reynolds, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Madsen and Tim Roth.
That's quite an impressive cast! Tarantino's new film has been described as a Pulp Fiction-like film that centers on characters around Los Angeles in the summer of 1969. The Manson Family murders serve as a backdrop to the story, which follows the two lead characters Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), a former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt). "Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor…Sharon Tate."
According to Deadline, Lewis will play the iconic actor Steve McQueen; Fanning is set as Squeaky Fromme, the Manson follower who later tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford; Hammond will play director Sam Wanamaker; and Hirsch is playing Jay Sebring, the Hollywood hairstylist who was one of four victims in the Tate murders. As for Perry, he will play Scotty Lancer, Collins will play Ernesto The Mexican Vaquero, and Keith Jefferson is Land Pirate Keith.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be released on August 9th, 2019.
Yesterday Sony Pictures shared a radical new trailer for Phil Lord and Chris Miller's upcoming animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. I love everything about what I've seen from this film so far. This thing is going to be wicked fun!
Today we have a new poster for the film to share with you and I also included a bunch of screenshots for you to scroll through. There's a lot of stuff going on in the trailer and there's an explosion of wild visuals! There are a few things I completely missed until I went through the trailer frame by frame. Some of those things go by so fast, you may have missed them. For example, there's one scene that shows an explosion and when that explosion happens you see a big "BOOM!" in it.
There are also a few other stylized things that I thought were awesome that you may have missed. The screenshots also feature shots of some of the villains, which includes stylized versions of the Ultimate Green Goblin, The Kingpin and The Prowler, who, in the comics, is Miles Morales' uncle.
Enter a universe where more than one wears the mask. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the creative minds behind “The Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street,” bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.
You'll notice in the trailer that the older middle-aged Peter Parker in the movie will be voiced by New Girl star Jake Johnson, who I think is a great choice for the role! Shameik Moore (Dope, The Get Down) is playing Miles Morales; Liev Schreiber is playing the larger-than-life crime lord Kingpin; Hailee Steinfeld will play spunky, free-spirited Spider-Gwen; Mahershala Ali will provide the voice for Miles’ uncle Aaron; Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry will voice Miles’ father Jefferson. Rounding out the cast is Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio, and Lily Tomlin will be Aunt May.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse will be released in theaters on December 14, 2018. What were some of your favorite parts of the trailer?
Seth Green and several other writers and producers of the Robot Chicken team are set to develop a new adult animated comedy for Hulu called Crossing Swords. The streaming service has ordered a pilot. I love what Green and his team have done with Robot Chicken and this new series is sure to be just as funny and entertaining. Here are the story details:
When Patrick, a goodhearted young peasant with dreams of earning his knighthood and dispensing justice to evildoers, lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle, his dream job quickly turns into a nightmare. In this kingdom, corruption starts at the top, and staying true to his lofty goals will be a thornier proposition than Patrick anticipated. It’s all the sex, violence and full-frontal nudity you’d expect from a “premium fantasy soap starring pre-school toys.”
Green will be an executive producer on the series alongside Matt Senreich, who co-created Robot Chicken, and Eric Towner. John Havartine and Tom Root will write and executive produce Crossing Swords through Stoopid Buddies Stoodios.
As a longtime fan of Robot Chicken, I can't wait to see how this series turns out!
J.J. Abrams and Sara Bareilles are set to executive produce a new half-hour dramedy series for Apple called Little Voices. The series is being written, directed, and produced by Jessie Nelson, who is being films such as I Am Sam, Stepmom, and Corrina, Corrina.
The series is described as "a love letter to the diverse musicality of New York which explores the universal journey of finding your authentic voice in your early 20s." The music for the series will come from Bareilles who previously collaborated with Nelson on the Tony Award–nominated musical Waitress.
Apple has already ordered a ten-episode first season. This seems like a great project for everyone involved, including Abrams who got his big break with the series Felicity. Judging by what we know, it seems like there are may be some similarities between Felicity and Little Voices.
Abrams has got a ton of other projects in the works right now that include Westworld, Castle Rock, Demimonde, Lovecraft Country, Star Trek 4, and Star Wars: Episode IX.
Freeform has cancelled Shadowhunters, and announced that the series will officially end after the second half of Season 3. Variety reports the show will be given a two-hour finale, which should give the series enough time to wrap things up for its remaining devoted fanbase. The 12 final episodes of the series are due out sometime in 2019 fans, so you still have plenty of time to mourn the show's loss and perhaps convince some friends to catch up with the series so they can be sad too.
Are you disappointed by this news? Did you ever watch Shadowhunters?
We recently found out about a one-shot manga that Bleach is doing to help fans prepare for the live-action adaptation coming out in July. The one-shot will supposedly focus on the main characters from the movie, but that doesn’t narrow it down much. Some fans are speculating that this manga will cover Rukia’s past leading up to the movie and maybe go into more depth about Soul Society a little. I think it’d be really cool to see more of Rukia’s life pre-Ichigo.
Masashi Kudo recently tweeted out a picture of the cover with some great artwork of Ichigo with his live-action counterpart in the corner. He tweeted the following statements to fans as well:
When it was first reported that the long-awaited Top Gun sequel was officially moving forward, I was really hoping that director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) and Tom Cruise would bring back Val Kilmer to reprise his role of aviator Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, who as you know was Cruise's rival in the first movie.
Well, according to The Wrap, Kilmer will be back! The film has started shooting San Diego, CA and Cruise even shared a photo last week. Kilmer has also been spotted around the San Diego hotel the studio has been using since production began.
Last year, Kilmer expressed interest in wanting to come back for Top Gun: Maverick and also teased at one point that he was offered the role and that he accepted. Not long after he shared that announcement, Kilmer updated his Facebook post and said he had been premature in making the announcement:
"This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role. I jumped the gun with my post. I jumped the topgun… An innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent…"
Well, it's good to see that everything worked out in the end! It'll be fun to see Iceman and Maverick back up on the big screen together!
We don't know much about the plot of the film yet, but we do know that it's going to be a competition film like the first one. It will also show us Maverick's progression and it will involve Jets, not drones.
For those of you who are excited about Brad Bird's Incredibles 2, I've got some exciting first reactions for you to read through! The buzz for this film is exploding with all kinds of wonderful praise. According to a bunch of press who attended an early screening, the film definitely lives up to the original movie and some people are saying that it's one of Pixar's best sequels yet!
The Incredibles is my favorite Pixar film, so I'm pretty stoked to hear that the sequel actually might be as awesome as I was hoping it would be. Read through a collection of reactions below and let us know if know they up your excitement level!
Wow!! #Incredibles2 is a blast. It does a great job building on the characters and the world, and it's super funny and action packed throughout. I had my doubts, but was thoroughly impressed. Will go down as one of the best titles of the summer. pic.twitter.com/jxR3U4SNoo
Time for some good news! Pixar’s #Incredibles2 is fantastic! Sweet, hilarious, and terrific pacing w/ a breezy story packed w/ action & heart. Adored it and the short #Bao before it. My favorite summer movie so far this season pic.twitter.com/WrCSN4J948
Incredibles 2 is excellent. Super funny, super smart, & the action is bigger and better than before. It shares some narrative DNA with the first film but it works nonetheless. Another Pixar winner. pic.twitter.com/RnB1DIIPsv
#incredibles2 is a serviceable sequel, a fun adventure but not on the same level of the original. Jack Jack & Edna steal the show, (please tell me they are making a short film with Edna babysitting Jack Jack). Fantastic production design, another great score by @m_giacchino.
The enjoyable, fleet INCREDIBLES 2 is probably the best sequel Pixar has made outside of the TOY STORY franchise, and not just because Catherine Keener's character spends so much of the film slouching on divans
In Incredibles 2, Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose super powers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.
The voice cast also includes Brad Bird, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Jonathan Banks, Sophia Bush, and Isabella Rossellini.
The film is set to smash into theaters on June 15, 2018.
