Bryan Callen and Marc Maron Join Joaquin Phoenix in JOKER

Two new actors have joined the cast of director Todd Phillips' JokerThe Hangover's Bryan Callen confirmed that he was cast in the film while he was a guest on The Fighter & The Kid podcast. He explains that he'll be playing an aging dancer/stripper:

"I’m doing the Joker. I was offered a part. That’ll be fun, but i think it’s only a couple days. Play an aging dancer, stripper. I don’t want to go into the details. I can’t go into the details, but just know it’s gonna be good. And I hope my psoriasis is flaring cause that’ll be very funny. I’ll be in a Speed-O, I can’t wait. I have some ideas for it."

Then Variety is reporting that Glow actor Marc Maron is in talks to join the Joker origin film. According to the report, "Maron would be portraying an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime."

The new actors will also join Frances Conroy, who will play the Joker's mother and Zazie Beetz would play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the Clown Prince of Crime.

The studio describes the story as being an "exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale."

The story is also said to "delve into what it took for the Joker to become a mastermind criminal" and rumor has it that the film story was inspired by The Killing Joke and that it revolves around a failed comedian who ends up becoming a criminal.

Phillips will co-write and direct the film which is set to be released on October 4th, 2019. For some additional details on the story click here.

Could Richard E. Grant Be Playing Grand Admiral Thrawn in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX?

It's already been rumored that Grand Admiral Thrawn could make his big screen debut in Star Wars: Episode IX. With the recent casting announcement that was made, fans are starting to speculate who one of the actors might be playing. A lot of fans think that Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Hudson Hawk) could be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn in the film because he has a look that would work.

Speculation is speculation, but when the actor himself chimes in on that speculation, that's when things get interesting. One fan took to social media and posted a comparison between Grant and Thrawn and that's when Grant himself liked a tweet responding to the comparison, which obviously caused fans to wonder if this is a sly confirmation of the theory. Here are those tweets:

I have no idea if this is how things will play out, but if Grand Admiral Thrawn does show up in the movie, Grant seems like the obvious choice to play him. Of course, he could just be playing some other villainous character working within the first order.

What do you think about the possibility of Grant taking on the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Star Wars: Episode IX also stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie LourdNaomi Ackie (Doctor Who), Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher.

The movie will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1st with returning to direct the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio (Argo, Justice League).

Composer John Williams will also return to compose Episode IX. The film is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.

Here’s a List of Some Non-Marvel Properties That Disney Will Get From Fox

Disney has basically acquired Fox. They technically have some more hurdles to go through, but everyone is expecting it to be fine. Of course, the biggest thing that Marvel fans are excited about is the fact that X-Men and Fantastic Four characters will be able to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, what else is Disney acquiring? I’ve put together a brief look into some of the other things Disney has acquired with a big one at the end.

The Simpsons
Family Guy
(the blue people one)
American Dad!
King of the Hill
Bob’s Burgers
The X-Files
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
American Horror Story
Ice Age
The Peanuts Movie
Home Alone
Miracle on 34th Street
The Sound of Music
Planet of the Apes

Everything from Fox Searchlight
Modern Family
Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The last one I want to mention is for Star Wars fans. Disney will now own 100% of the distribution rights for the original trilogy. This means that Disney could release Blu-ray versions of the original trilogy that features the original theatrical release. There is some speculation that such a thing is physically impossible, but if Disney is smart, they’ll find a way. Do you think Disney will do anything with all of these new properties, or will they remain untouched by the Mouse?

Crazy Jane Has Been Cast in DC’s Live-Action DOOM PATROL Series

Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black) has been cast in the role of Crazy Jane in DC's upcoming live-action Doom Patrol series. She is one of the lead characters in the series.

Guerrero’s Crazy Jane is described as "an unlikely hero suffering from the world’s most severe case of multiple personality disorder. Each of her 64 distinct personas manifest a different super power making Jane the Doom Patrol’s most powerful member…and also its most unstable."

Guerrero seems like a great actress to take on the role. She will join April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl and Kelsy Grammer, who is in talks to play Dr. Caulder. This group of heroic outcasts also includes Robotman, and Negative Man. Together these rejects find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe. Here's the synopsis:

DOOM PATROL is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities—but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence—and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of TITANS, DOOM PATROL will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.

Doom Patrol is being written by Jeremy Carver who will executive produce it alongside Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter

The series received a 13-episode straight-to-series order and it will begin production this year for a 2019 premiere on DC Universe.

Disney is Reportedly Considering Reinstating James Gunn as The Director of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

Yesterday the main cast members of Guardians of the Galaxy released a joint statement supporting James Gunn with the hope that Disney would bring him back on board to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

As you all know by now, James Gunn was fired after a bunch of old offensive tweets re-surfaced online years after already apologizing for them. The director has gotten a lot of support from his fans, family, friends, and associates over the past week. Now, according to Variety, Disney is reportedly considering rehiring Gunn. The report says:

Sources say there has been a growing feeling that Gunn could be reinstated, especially because Marvel and Disney have been unusually radio-silent on who could replace him since the firing. Production is slated to start at the top of 2019, and following Gunn’s removal from the film, it was thought that Marvel and Disney would need to move quickly to replace him, since the replacement would likely have to do some work on the script.
With Walt Disney chairman Bob Iger out on vacation currently, insiders believed a decision would not be made until he returned to work.

It would be great if Disney brought Gunn back on board to direct Guardians Vol. 3. I feel like this whole firing was a knee-jerk reaction and that maybe they should have actually put some thought into this decision before making it, unless it was an excuse for someone to pull the trigger to try and get rid of James Gunn.

It's good to hear that Disney might be looking to bring James Gunn back, that is sure to make fans happy. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

IRON FIST Star Finn Jones Says The Actors Performed Most of The Fight Sequences in Season 2

One of the biggest weaknesses regarding the way Marvel is handling Iron Fist is the fight sequences. Iron Fist is supposed to be a badass martial artist, so the fight sequences should have been a highlight of the show! But I have yet to see a fight scene involving the character that wows me. Everything I've seen up to this point has been pretty mediocre and it shouldn't be mediocre!

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, actor Finn Jones talked about the fight sequences in Iron First Season 2 and says that the majority of the fights were performed with minimal use of stunt doubles. So the actors did most of the fight work:

"The majority of fights this season, if not all of them, are performed by all of the actors in the show this season and the doubles were used pretty minimally. It was awesome, I had such a great time working with Clayton [Barber] and his crew this year. I kind of miss it to be honest. I think fans will be really excited to see how the fight scenes come out because from what you saw last night, they're awesome."

Hopefully the actors were trained well enough to deliver some great fight scenes because the stunt doubles used in the past sure seemed to drop the ball. To help the actors in their fight scenes, Marvel brought in Clayton Barber, the fight coordinator of Black Panther, and he's said to have approached things differently. His style has previously been described as being old school kung fu. When talking about his training, Jones said:

"Long and grueling. I started training four months ahead of the shooting schedule doing my own thing and when we started, we were constantly training whilst we were filming."

I'll be honest. The fact that the actors are doing most of the fight sequences in Season 2 isn't encouraging. I just don't think that Jones has the ability to deliver the kind of badass martial arts fight scenes that we should be seeing from Iron Fist. I hope we don't get more of the same disappointing fight scenes, but unfortunately, that's probably what we're going to see. Do you think Jones will be able to pull it off?

Iron Fist Season 2 features Danny Rand (Finn Jones) as he fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
Season 2 furthers the transformation of Danny , a character with a fish out of water coming of age story making his way in a harsh new world, battling to work out who he is. This season, Dann y has promised that with Matt Murdock gone, he will step up and protect his city. But a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity and he must conquers his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart.

Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 also stars Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Sacha Dhawan (Davos), Tom Pelphrey (Ward Meachum), Jessica Stroup (Joy Meachum), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), and will also include Alice Eve (Mary Walker).

Iron Fist is slated for release on September 7, 2018.

Simon Pegg Says Quentin Tarantino’s STAR TREK Film is Five or Six Years Away From Happening

While director S.J. Clarkson is hard at work on developing Star Trek 4 for Paramount Pictures, it sounds like Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek film isn't going to happen anytime soon. In fact, according to Simon Pegg, it's likely that we won't see his movie for another five or six years.

While speaking with Edmonton Journal, Pegg confirms that Tarantino's plan is to use the current cast of the franchise:

"[Tarantino] came in to Bad Robot and pitched it and it’s been put in the bank. I think he had us in mind when he came up with the idea; he likes the new cast…As far as I know, it is the same cast."

The actor then went on to say that it's probably going to be a few years before anything happens with Tarantino's film:

"I can’t see him doing it for five or six years, by which time we might be too old anyway."

Yeah, the cast for this film franchise isn't getting any younger. At least J.J. Abrams and the studio are still looking to do it. I'm very excited about seeing what Tarantino's vision of Star Trek will be. It's still crazy to think that he's going to direct a Star Trek movie! It's just one of those things I never thought I'd see.

Pegg went on to talk about Clarkson's approach on her Star Trek 4 film, saying:

"I’ve met with S.J. and she’s fizzing with ideas and she has the right attitude…She’s reverent, but she’s not slavish. In terms of the story, I have a vague knowledge, but it’s nothing I can talk about."

What we do know about Star Trek 4 is that it will reunite Captain James T. Kirk with his father, George Kirk, played by Chris Hemsworth. The tagline for the film reads, "Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never got to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father."

Abrams previously talked about the movie, saying, "It’s really the reason we made the deal with Chris Hemsworth as soon as we could because we really wanted that story to be told."

It's also been reported that the film will feature a new female hero and a female villain, one of which may end up being played by Danai Guira (The Walking Dead).

CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA Gets a Release Date and New Photo of Sabrina

If you’re excited for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, you’ll be happy to know that we finally have a release date! You can expect the show to appear on the streaming service Netflix on October 26 with 10 episodes. I also included a new photo below featuring Sabrina and Harvey.

The show will focus on Sabrina Spellman as she navigates this crazy thing we call life, but unlike most of us, she's a witch.

Sabrina reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft. It’s described as in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Kiernan Shipka will play the role of Sabrina, and she will be joined by Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Ricard Coyle, and Bronson Pinchot.

Are you excited to see this darker take on Sabrina?

Netflix has released two new amusing promo spots for Matt Groening's adult-themed fantasy animated series Disenchantment. We already shared and great trailer from Comic-Con, but these new spots bring a little bit more information to the table. They dive into the setting of the series, which is Dreamland, and they introduced us to some fun new characters like the Princess Bean, her feisty elf Elfo, her demon Luci, The Happy Executioner, The Noble King, The Friendly Fairy, The Decrepit Peddler, and more.
