Marvel has released the first trailer for their upcoming animated series, Avengers: Black Panther's Quest. They are obviously looking to capitalize on the success of Black Panther, which raked in over $700 million at the domestic box office.
The series is a standalone adventure that is not part of the MCU, but it follows Black Panther and his sister Shuri as they embark on a journey and along the way they enlist the help of Iron Man and Captain America. Here's are some details on the series from Yahoo:
"The animated series will pit Black Panther against a collection of old and new foes, all as it depicts his struggle to balance his responsibilities to his homeland and his newfound duties as a member of the Avengers. That tension between protecting his people and using his powers for global good will reportedly be the heart of the show."
Marvel's animated series could use a major overhaul. It seems like the quality of these shows just seem to get worse and worse. There's an audience of kids out there, though, that love 'em.
Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest is set to premiere on September 23rd at 9 pm ET on DisneyXD.
Castlevania Season 1 was the unexpected and criminally short hit Netflix introduced in 2017, and while it was a shame the season was so short, the streaming service did an amazing job at making sure the series was back the very next year for Season 2!
For those who don't remember where the story left off, Trevor Belmont, Sypha, and the half-human half-vampire Alucard all agreed to team up against Dracula to stop his evil crusade against the countryside. Season 2 has eight episodes set to drop October 26, and now a badass poster that will have you "seeing red.":
Blu Hunt is the latest to join the cast of sci-fi drama Another Life. The Netflix series will star Hunt alongside Katee Sackhoff, Selma Blair, Tyler Hoechlin, Justin Chatwin, Samuel Anderson, and Elizabeth Faith Ludlow. Another Life is a creation from Aaron Martin who will serve as executive producer with Noreen Halpern.
I’m always down for a new sci-fi show and it could be really interesting to watch them examine the origin of this alien artifact. What do you think the artifact is?
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has shown he's a class act in the past, but every so often something pops up that reminds you just how great of a guy he can be. The star reached out to a grieving family who lost their sister and mother recently following a car accident in which the other driver was going 100 MPH the wrong way down the freeway.
One of the family members took to Twitter and asked the site for help in contacting The Rock as his mother was a big super fan of the actor and his movies. Twitter came through and over 60,000 retweets later, The Rock appeared in the DM's to send his condolences to the family (via Comic Book).
For those who may have recognized the story, these are the victims from the car crash involving professional gamer McSkillet, which some have believed was a suicide. The victims were a mother and daughter aged 43 and 12, as well as the 18-year-old McSkillet. I can't imagine what this family is going through right now, and hope The Rock's message offered just a bit of comfort to them in this hard time.
I think Zachary Levi is perfect for the role of Shazam in the upcoming DC film Shazam!, and I’m sure many agree (ignore the costuming choice if you have to). Fans aren’t the only ones that think that either. Variety recently caught up with Asher Angel who is playing the young version of Billy Batson, and Angel shared his thoughts.
HBO has released the first trailer for their upcoming Japanese series Miss Sherlock, which give us a completely new re-imagining of the classic character Sherlock Holmes. The latest vision of the iconic detective comes in the form of a modern day a British-born Japanese woman and she is played by The Ring star Yuko Takeuchi.
We've seen a lot of different versions of Holmes over the years, and this one looks like it could be seriously great! The trailer starts off with a comedic tone, but then it takes a dark turn. This looks like it will tell some crazy intense stories filled with all kinds of unpredictable twists and turns. I love what I'm seeing in this first trailer and I'm totally in!
Here is the official synopsis for Miss Sherlock:
The show follows the British-born Miss Sherlock Holmes to Japan, where she meets Dr. Wato Tachibana, a surgeon who has just returned from a medical mission in Syria. The two women spark a friendship and become partners in solving peculiar, perplexing crimes. MISS SHERLOCK retains the essential qualities of Sherlock Holmes, as the investigators employ insightful observation and reasoning skills in their new incarnation as strong women.
Miss Sherlock will be available to HBO’s U.S. subscribers across on September 1, 2018.
I don't know if you remember or not, but in 1998 Agent Mulder and Agent Scully got their own X-Files Barbie Doll figures that were absolutely terrible. In case you need a reminder:
As you can see, they look nothing like David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson! But, Mattel is righting their wrong and they have created a new pair of figures for the 25th anniversary of the show and as you'll see, they're way better than what you see above. They actually resemble the actors who play these characters. Sure, they're not Hot Toys, but they are still a little something for fans to add to their X-Files collection. You can check out the new figures below:
Below you'll find the descriptions for the figures:
A medical doctor and natural skeptic, Agent Dana Scully attempts to explain the paranormal with science. Idealistic, intelligent, and with strong convictions, she perseveres to unearth the extraordinary secrets contained within the X-Files, risking her career — and her life. The Barbie® The X-Files™ Agent Dana Scully doll wears her signature look from the '90s — dark suit, “FBI” ID and badge. The doll is sculpted to the likeness of the actor and is fully articulated. Includes doll, doll stand for display, accessories and Certificate of Authenticity.
Renegade Agent Fox Mulder is a talented profiler and strong believer in the supernatural, adamant about the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life. In a world of distorted reality, manipulated facts, and government cover-ups, he is willing to risk everything to find what he desires most — the Truth. The Barbie® The X-Files™ Agent Fox Mulder doll wears his signature look from the '90s — dark suit, “FBI” ID and badge. The doll is sculpted to the likeness of the actor and is fully articulated. Includes doll, doll stand for display, accessories and Certificate of Authenticity
If you want to buy these they are currently up for sale on Mattel's website and they are priced at $40 each.
There's a new TV series being developed that will be based on author Bill Brittain’s young adult novel The Wish Giver. The rights to the book were picked up by producers Brett Carducci and Stephen Laddin and it sounds like it will make a great eerie series. If you're not familiar with the book, here's the official description of the novel:
A Newbery Honor Book that the New York Times called “an eerie delight,” The Wish Giver is an engaging literary folk story about those who get what they wish for—whether they want it or not.
The people of Coven Tree are no strangers to magic. In fact, the town’s very name comes from a gnarled old tree where covens of witches used to gather. Even now, imps and fiends continue to appear, frightening the townsfolk with their devilish pranks.
Usually these creatures are easy to spot. They have a particular smell, or sound, or way of moving, that betrays their dark nature.
But Thaddeus Blinn showed none of these signs when he came to Coven Tree. He was just a funny little man who drifted into town with a strange tale about being able to give people whatever they wished—for only fifty cents.
There was nothing scary about him. At least, not until the wishing began…
I enjoy these kinds of stories and this one sounds like it could be a solid series worth checking out. I hope that they are able to bring on a talented creative team to bring this story to life.
If you’ve been wanting more from Avatar: The Last Airbender, here it is. Nickelodeon has teamed with Abrams Children’s Books to give us some YA novels and they won’t be about Aang and the gang. The two confirmed books are said to be a duology about Avatar Kyoshi who is a fan favorite. The first book will be called The Rise of Kyoshi and follow her life including the creation of the Kyoshi Warriors and Dai Li. F.C. Yee (who worked on The Legend of Korra) is teaming up with series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino to write the book and everyone should be excited about it. These books will be considered canon and are expected to release July 2019. In a statement from senior vice president of Abrams, Andrew Smith said:
DC Universe's Doom Patrol just cast it's best actor yet! Alan Tudyk is set to take on the role of Eric Mordon a.k.a. Mr. Nobody in the upcoming live-action series! Here's the information that was revealed for his character in the series:
After exposure to unknown experiments by ex-Nazis in post-war Paraguay, the man formerly known as Eric Morden emerges as a living shadow able to drain the sanity of others as the enigmatic, and totally insane, Mr. Nobody.
Tudyk joins the previously cast Brendan Frasier as Robotman, April Bowlby as Elsti-Woman, Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, and Joivan Wade as Cyborg. They still have yet to cast the role of Negative Man.
DOOM PATROL is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities—but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence—and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of TITANS, DOOM PATROL will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.
Doom Patrol is being written by Jeremy Carver who will executive produce it alongside Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
The series received a 13-episode straight-to-series order and it will begin production this year for a 2019 premiere on DC Universe.
Doom Patrol is set to premiere on DC Universe in 2019.
