Awesomely Thrilling New Trailer for WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

20th Century Fox has released the new trailer for director Matt Reeves' War for the Planet of the Apes! This movie is looking incredibly complex based on what we see in the trailer. Caesar and his fellow apes are doing all they can to protect themselves against Woody Harrelson's "Colonel" and his army of humans. Far from being black and white, it would appear that Caesar has taken in a human girl and a gorilla has joined up with the human militia, blurring the lines of ape versus man. I love the dark tone and direction that Reeves is going in. War is looking to be another amazing chapter in the new Planet of the Ape franchise.

Here's a brief synopsis:

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Let us know what you think of it. The film comes out on July 14th.

This Adrenaline-Fueled Virgin Fibre Commercial is an Absolute Blast!

I'll admit, I didn't know Virgin was coming out with its own fiber internet connection, but I'm not surprised. The surprise comes from the epic commercial they released to announce it! It starts off in a futuristic tunnel as we see French Revolution type running through it chased by flaming arrows shot by an unknown assailant. Then it gets crazy. An incredible race scene ensues, getting more crowded as it goes. The characters are references to movies and television shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Max, and The Dark Knight. We do get a cameo from one licensed character, Donatello from the Nickelodeon cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Turns out they're all racing inside a fiber cable line held by a Virgin Fibre installation guy, who thinks he hears the commotion inside the cable. The commercial ends with the following tagline.

"The best entertainment deserves awesome wi-fi. This is Virgin Fiber."

Beautifully Edited Hayao Miyazaki Tribute Video – MIYAZAKI DREAMS OF FLYING

Director Hayao Miyazaki is responsible for some of the most beloved animated films in the world. Fandor explores a recurring theme that permeates his body of work: flight. Beautifully edited together, the iconic scenes gave me goosebumps as I saw Totoro, Kiki, Porco, and the rest take to the sky. Intercut are scenes of Miyazaki speaking of Jiro Horikoshi, the aircraft engineer the film, The Wind Rises is based on, contemplating how a man who made warplanes was antiwar. It's a fantastic short video essay, and I think anyone will appreciate it

Amusing Wolverine Parody Short Focuses on an Actual Old Man Logan

The Warp Zone focuses its newest parody on the latest installment in the X-Men franchise, Logan. Even the Wolverine is no match for Father Time in this comedy short. Trapped in a retirement home, Logan is dealing with dementia, fleeing the orderlies, reminiscing about the good old days, and getting the last tapioca pudding. Granted, some of it is low-hanging fruit, but it's good for a chuckle.

Stunning Photos of the Badass Cars of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Before They Were Destroyed

Check out these amazing photos of the cars from Mad Max: Fury Road by photographer John Platt. They come from the mind of George Miller and were brought to life by Production Designer Colin Gibson. These badass vehicles from a world gone mad are works of art, and they belong in a museum! You know... the ones that survived filming. Platt had the good fortune to shoot these before production began.

"Prior to the start of shooting 'Mad Max Fury Road' in Namibia, South West Africa I was commissioned to shoot these vehicles. Seventy five vehicles in three weeks. Trucks, cars and bikes including the incredible details that made each of them a work of art."

The details he captured are, indeed, incredible. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of Furiosa's War Rig. Be sure to check out the rest of the gallery and his work here and here

Great Cosplay Music Video from South PAX 2017

Mineralblu gives us a silky smooth glimpse of the cosplay community down in San Antonio during the South PAX Convention. Using a DJI Osmo, he was able to capture some of the extraordinary costumes inspired by some of our favorite anime, games, and series. With cameras like the Osmo and other gimbal based rigs, we will probably start seeing more and more videos like this one showcasing a higher production value without breaking the bank. Mineralblu was even able to give us a fantastic view of the San Antonio skyline using the new DJI Mavic pro, a compact drone. It's nice to be able to see all these different conventions without having to go to all of them, although that would make for a killer road trip.  I'm sure the cosplayers love seeing their hard work showcased in the video. Be sure to check out Mineralblu's YouTube channel to see more of the conventions he's been to

Learn About the Possibilities of Time Travel in EPIC HOW TO’s New Video

Epic How To presents to us one of the mainstays in science fiction, time travel. With goofy if not unsettling animations (Hey, Trent!), Epic How To shows us the possibilities of traversing that fourth dimension. Presented in a simple but not dumbed down way, they explain how it may be possible to accelerate going forward in time and even explore theories on how to travel back in time. I've always enjoyed these Epic How To videos because they always explore improbable scenarios. So while it may be possible to travel through time, it'll be a while before we hit Time Lord status.

Review: THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR Is a Tame and Underwhelming Film

Full disclosure: I have not seen Snow White and the Huntsman. I don't think it would have helped. In fact, I think this movie would have benefited from being a stand alone film because it would have been its own mythology and not have the anchor around its neck that I could feel in this movie.

The Huntsman: Winter's War is a unique sequel in that it is a prequel sequel. A presqueal, if you will. The movie shows us how Eric (Chris Hemsworth), the Huntsman came to be such a badass warrior by fighting in the Ice Queen's (Emily Blunt) army called …The Huntsmen! We also meet Eric's true love, Sara (Jessica Chastain). The two best warriors in her majesty's service. Until they commit the greatest sin, love!

Eric is banished, and the fate of Sara is a plot twist that is spoiled in the trailer. Cut to just after the events in the previous film. Snow White, who we only see the back of once, has sent the evil mirror to be locked away so its influence can't hurt anyone. But it never arrived at its destination so it's up to Eric to find out what happened. Tagging along is Nion (Nick Frost) the dwarf from the original film and his cynical brother Gryff (Rob Brydon). Along the way they are met by two dwarven highwaywomen, the feisty Mrs. Bromwyn (Sheridan Smith) and the sweet Doreena (Alexandra Roach).

These five are the best part of the movie. Hemsworth is snarky and likable, which was a pleasant surprise and the dwarves are all funny with snappy one-liners and some slapstick without going too far. Frost and Roach's character even have some tender moments that really make you care about them. Chastain is likable too, in the beginning, then she falls a little flat after she is reunited with Hemsworth. Which, honestly, is kind of the problem with the film as a whole.

It's too safe. I feel like the filmmakers were too scared to do anything too fantastical that could be perceived as hokey or stupid. I'm sure first-time director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, having come from a visual effects background, would have like to have flexed his VFX muscles for his debut, but the whole production just felt reined in.

All in all, The Huntsman: Winter's War was mediocre. Fun characters, great but tame visual effects, and a underwhelming story. Let's hope Cedric finds his voice before he makes the Highlander remake.
