There’s a Michael Jackson Musical Coming to Broadway

I know we don't post a lot of Broadway musical stuff on the site, but Micheal Jackson is getting his own Broadway musical and as a fan, that's pretty rad!

I recently took my fam to go see that the Las Vegas show Michael Jackson One and that thing just blew my mind! If you're ever in Vegas and you're a Micheal Jackson fan, you have to see it!

The Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage announced that they are developing a new stage musical that will be inspired by the life of Michael Jackson. The show doesn't have a title yet, but it's expected to arrive on Broadway in 2020.

The show will boast a book by Lynn Nottage, a two time Pulitzer Prize winner known for “Sweat” and “Ruined,” two gritty dramas that grapple with subjects such as war and rust belt privation, both of which seem pretty far removed from the life of the Gloved One. The score will draw on Jackson’s catalogue — a list of pop favorites that includes “Thriller,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Beat It,” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.” Tony Award winner and contemporary ballet superstar Christopher Wheeldon (“An American in Paris”) will direct and choreograph the production.

With the Jackson Estate involved, I doubt that the musical will go into any of the more controversial issues of Jackson's life.

I'm curious to see how this Broadway show turns out and I'll definitely be making the trip to New York to see it!

Will Ferrell Set to Star in a Netflix Music Competition Film Called EUROVISION

Netflix is developing another film music competition comedy with Will Ferrell called Eurovision. Ferrell will star in the film and also co-write it with Andrew Steele. Ferrell will sing in the movie!

The story revolves around the "wildly popular and long-running international TV music competition The Eurovision Song Contest. It is a contest that began in Switzerland in 1956, when seven West European nations participated. This year 43 countries competed for the prize, won in Lisbon by Netta (Israel) performing the song Toy. ABBA (winner in 1974 for Sweden) and Céline Dion (winner in 1988 for Switzerland) are among the former contestants who launched successful worldwide careers after their wins at The Eurovision Song Contest."

Ferrell will also produce for Gary Sanchez Productions, along with Adam McKay as an executive producer. This sounds like it will be a fun comedy for Ferrell. I enjoy most of the films that he makes and his style of comedy, so I'll be looking forward to this.

Here are a couple of videos of Ferrell singing below:

Jamie Lee Curtis Explains How Laurie Strode is Like Dr. Loomis in The New HALLOWEEN Film

After that first trailer for Halloween was released, the excitement for David Gordon Green and Danny McBride's film shot up. For the most part, fans liked what they saw and they want to see more.

As you already know, the movie is a direct sequel to the original 1978 film, and as you might expect, after 40 years, Dr. Loomis will not be around. He was previously played by Donald Pleasence and there's no doubt his presence will be felt in the film. There was a quick shot of a court drawing of him in the trailer. Pleasence's last appearance as the character was in the sixth film, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.

There is also going to be another character that will be taking up a similar mantle as Dr. Loomis and that character is Laurie Strode. Jamie Lee Curtis recently talked about how she will be like Dr. Loomis in the film, explaining to the Sunrise morning show:

"Laurie has been traumatized and Laurie also understands Michael Myers in a way that nobody else does. In a weird way, she’s become the new Loomis character because Loomis was the one who understood that [Michael] needed to be stopped because he was pure evil. You see, Laurie knows that – and nobody’s paying any attention, but Laurie is…Laurie is patrolling these streets."

Which is obviously why she's been training to kill Micheal Meyers over the past forty years. She wants to take him down if he ever escapes from the asylum. And he does, so now's her chance to put those skills to use. There are some big changes coming to this next chapter that will bring something different and fresh to the franchise. I hope these changes help that story instead of hurt it. One of the biggest changes is that Micheal Meyers and Laurie Strode will not be brother and sister. If you want some information on why they decided to go that route, you can read up on it here.

Judy Greer plays Karen Strode, the daughter of Laurie, and Andi Matichak (Orange Is the New Black, Underground) plays Allyson, the granddaughter.

John Carpenter is an executive producer on the film and also served as a creative consultant. He is also doing the musical score. The new Halloween will land in theaters on October 19th.

What do you think about Laurie taking on the mantle of Dr. Loomis?

Chris Pratt Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Might Take Place in the Past

After Avengers: Infinity War ended, a lot of fans assumed that the remaining Avengers team would attempt to fix what Thanos had done. Since then, the writers and directors of the film have tried to tell us that dead is dead and that we should expect the unexpected.

Recently, director Anthony Russo cryptically explained:

"Here’s the thing, I think it’s important to remember anything is possible in the MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe]. Just because there’s a sequel on the books doesn’t mean … people become accustomed to time moving linearly in the MCU. That doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. There’s a lot of very inventive ways of where the story can go."

Joe Russo added:

"There’s four years between Guardians 2 and Infinity War. That’s a long time, and a lot of Guardians stories to tell. Again, as Anthony said, don’t expect everything to move forward in a linear fashion in the Marvel universe."

Trying to make fans believe that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be set prior to the events of Infinity War. Now, actor Chris Pratt is saying just that! While talking to MTV on the red carpet for the stupid MTV Movie and TV Awards, he was asked about the film, and teased:

"They've cast the Blue Man Group. Yeah, it's going to be all Blue Man Group. I'm not supposed to say anything, oh no now everyone's going to be all mad! It's the Blue Man Group. It's an Andy Griffith hologram, yeah, they're the new Guardians. It's gonna be amazing."

He was then asked about how mourning Gamora might play out, to which he was quick to point out that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might not take place after Infinity War at all.

"You don't know. It might take place in the past. It might be a prequel."

I don't know if this is something that everyone has been told to say to throw people off regarding the upcoming film or if this is something that might actually be part of the plan. Maybe it's something completely different. I don't know, but that's what everyone seems to be hinting at.

If this is the case, maybe these characters really are gone, which really would be hard! But, Dave Bautista did tease that Drax will be back and that he will possibly show up in Avengers 4. But he did admit that they didn't know how they were bringing him back.

It's going to be awhile before we do have any concrete answers regarding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but one thing we do know for sure... it will be released in theaters in 2020.

What do you think of all this talk of Guardians Vol. 3 being set in the past? Do you think everyone is just throwing deception at the fans to mess with our heads, or do you think there could be some truth to it?

Brad Bird Wants to Develop His 1906 San Fransisco Earthquake Project as a Film and TV Series

Director Brad Bird has been working on trying to develop a film project based around the great San Fransisco earthquake. It’s called 1906 and it was supposed to be Bird's fist live-action feature film. Instead, he got sidetracked and went on to direct Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Tomorrowland

The filmmaker, who recently helmed Incredibles 2, gave an update on the project which he’s been trying to get into production since 2007. Now he’s looking at developing the project as a film and a TV series because there’s so much story to tell.

While talking about 1906 on the Variety podcast Playback, Bird explains his big ideas for the project, saying:

“It wants to be a longer story. It’s a really fascinating moment in history. Prior to the earthquake, San Francisco is this really happening city that’s somewhere between the Old West and the 20th Century. I mean, they still had bars where people were getting Shanghai’d—getting slipped Mickey Finns and you would wake up on a boat and if you didn’t work the boat, you’d be thrown overboard. So that was still happening and the people who owned those kinds of bars were in the California legislature. In other words, it was somewhere between the Wild West and the sophisticated city San Francisco would like to see itself as, and was in many ways.”

The story that Bird wants to tell is just too big to fit in a single movie. So he wants to expand on the story in a way that TV can do, but at the same time, he doesn't want to lose the epic scope of the big screen experience. So, he is thinking of doing both.

"It’s this fascinating moment in history where gaslight and electric light were co-existing, and cars and horses were co-existing. Getting it in a movie-sized box, it’s too big a story for. If you do it for TV you’re missing the scale of motion pictures, so I keep trying to get it to kind of straddle these two worlds."

The director goes on to reveal his idea of telling the earthquake portion of the story as a feature film, and then expand on all the other elements of the story as a TV series:

“I love the movie experience and I would want the earthquake to be on a movie screen and yet I recognize that the story’s too [big], so I’m kind of trying to get it done as an amalgam and people are kind of intrigued by it. Warners wants to do the earthquake part of it as a movie, and we just can’t get it all under one roof. But I’m still fascinated by the story. To be continued. I’m still interested in it but I want it to be done in a way that embraces all the possibilities and yet somehow stays near or part of it or something on the big screen, so we’ll see what happens.”

Nothing is set in stone at the moment. Bird is still just working on how to tackle this story, but I do like his idea though! I think his plan could work out great. It seems like the perfect compromise that would allow him to be able to fully tell the story that he wants to tell.

The film is based on the novel by James Dalessandro, and here's the description of the story:

James Dalessandro's "riveting account of corruption, greed, and murder in the City by the Bay" Set during the great San Francisco earthquake and fire, this page-turning historical novel reveals recently uncovered facts that forever change our understanding of what really happened. Narrated by a feisty young reporter, Annalisa Passarelli, the novel paints a vivid picture of the Post-Victorian city, from the mansions of Nob Hill to the underbelly of the Barbary Coast to the arrival of tenor Enrico Carusoand the Metropolitan Opera. Central to the story is the ongoing battle fought even as the city burns that pits incompetent and unscrupulous politicians against a coalition of honest police officers, newspaper editors, citizens, and a lone federal prosecutor.James Dalessandro weaves unforgettable characters and actual events into a compelling epic.

New STRANGER THINGS Comic To Tell The Story Of What Happened To Will in The Upside Down

Dark Horse Comics and Netflix are teaming up for a new Stranger Things comic book series. It will provide the opportunity to explore more of the mysterious world of Hawkins, Indiana, which is where the series takes place. Dark Horse President and Founder Mike Richardson had this to say in a statement:

"Dark Horse is known for championing stories and storytellers. We are so excited to work with Netflix to bring the world of Stranger Things to comics."

One of the first stories that they will dive into is Will and what exactly happened to him in the Upside Down while everyone was trying to save him in the real world. This will tell us the story of his horrific adventure, which we didn't get to see in the first season of the series.

Stranger Things #1 follows Will Byers as he enters a dimension of decay and destruction where he must use his wits and resolve to dodge the pursuit of the Demogorgon and escape the Upside Down.

There are four issues in this story and they will be written by Award-winning writer Jody Houser (Faith, Orphan Black, Mother Panic). The art for the comic will be provided by penciller Stefano Martino (Legs Weaver, Nathan Never), inker Keith Champagne (JSA, Superboy), colorist Lauren Affe (Rebels, Five Ghosts), and letterer Nate Piekos (Briggs Land, Green Arrow).

Below you'll find some cover art from Aleksi Briclot (New Avengers, Maskemane) with three variant covers, one each from Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire, Blue Beetle), visual artist Kyle Lambert, and a photo-variant cover designed by Patrick Satterfield and Netflix.

Stranger Things #1 goes on sale September 26, 2018.

Character Details Revealed For The Joker Origin Film and Robert De Niro is Reportedly Wanted For One of Them

DC Entertainment is getting ready to rock and role on director Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix's Joker origin film and today we have a bunch of character details to share with you.

The following information comes from That Hashtag Show and they reveal the names of the characters the production team are looking to cast along with details on the characters. One of the big things that the report offers is that this film will create an entirely new Joker mythology, apart from DC Comics.

There are eight characters revealed below and I'm not familiar with any of them. There's also one supporting character that is mentioned that producer Martin Scorsese is reportedly trying to get Robert De Niro to play. Here are the names and description of the characters:

Supporting Female (60-74) Caucasian. Lower class, very attractive in her younger days, still feels that way about herself. But recently her health has started failing, and she’s nearly bedridden in her Lower East Side apartment which she shares with her grown son who just moved back home. She’s obsessed with her former employer and can’t believe that this is what her life has come to, that she has ended up here, like this…

It's speculated that Penny could be the mother of the Joker.

Supporting female (27-34) to play African American or to play Latina. Not beautiful, has a hardness to her, a single mother living on the Lower East Side, doing the best she can, trying to make ends meet; worn out by the grind of the city. She understands how the system is stacked against her and the people in her community, how unjust it all is for them. She’s just trying to catch a break..

Sophie is a potential love interest for the Joker or a potential partner in crime…or both.

Male (65-75) Caucasian

There's no description here but this is apparently the character that they want Robert De Niro to play.

Supporting Male (40-59) Caucasian. Thinks he’s the wisest and most knowledgeable person in any room he’s in, tries to present himself as a mentor to everybody, but is really just looking out for himself, burly.

Supporting Male (30-49) any ethnicity to play a dwarf; Randall’s best friend, he’s good-natured and a buddy to his colleagues at work, one of the only decent people in the whole movie.

Supporting Male (50-69) any ethnicity the old-school manager of hotel staff. He’s seen it all, and finds it difficult to give a shit about much of anything anymore

Supporting Male (50-59) any ethnicity. Police Detective in a city on the brink; a by-the-book cop, worn down by all his years on the force. He doesn’t care about or take into consideration any of the societal or political ramifications of his cases.

Supporting Male (30-39) any ethnicity. A Police Detective and Garrity’s partner; he’s an asshole, who gets off by being in a position of authority. Being a cop is how he defines himself.

Because someone has to hunt down The Joker for his criminal acts, and it's not going to be Batman in this film.

These are just a handful of characters that Todd Phillips will be introducing in the movie.

The story is said to "delve into what it took for the Joker to become a mastermind criminal" and that it will be more of "a gritty crime drama than comic book movie." Rumor has it that the film story was inspired by The Killing Joke and that it revolves around a failed comedian who ends up becoming a criminal.

The movie is said to only have a $55 million dollar budget, which is considered a low budget for such a high profile film, but if Deadpool can pull off such a badass movie on such a small budget, then this one should be able to pull it off as well. As long as the film has a strong story and script, it should be fine.

This is one of two Joker projects in the works at DC Entertainment. The other project will be part of the DCEU and focus on Jared Leto's version of the character.

What do you think of the information provided here? Are there any details you can pick from the info to try and piece a story together?

New WONDER WOMAN 1984 Details Surface Regarding Pedro Pascal’s Character

There's still so much that we don't know about Wonder Woman 1984. Sure we've seen some official images and videos from the set, but we still don't know what the story will entail. We also don't know the details regarding some of the new characters that will be joining the film. Thanks to Hollywood insider DanielRPK, we now have some possible information on Pedro Pascal's mysterious character. This is just a rumor, but just in case:

This is the information that was revealed:

This is pretty much like Ares in the first film. He was a villainous god in hiding helping pull the strings of men to create war and chaos.

When someone in the comments suggested Pascal could be pretending to be Steve Trevor, the source said, "Nope. That's the real Steve Trevor." So there's an answer to another question that a lot of people had on their minds.

Some people are speculating that Pascal could either be another villain that ties into Wonder Woman's past and something that will be revealed as the movie explores her history further. Then some people are suggesting that Pascal could end up being Wonder Woman's father Zeus, which is what was revealed by Ares at the end of the first movie. That would actually be kind of cool.

Of course, there are a lot of other gods from the Greek legends that he could end up playing. I'm sure more information will be revealed as time goes on. As of right now, were' just getting little nuggets here and there. Hopefully we get at least a synopsis at Comic-Con.

What are your theories on who Pedro Pascal might be playing?

Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters on November 1, 2019.

Production Has Officially Started on The PET SEMATARY Remake

Well, production has officially started on the new feature film adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary, and it better be good! A photo from the set of the film was shared on Twitter by co-director Dennis Widmyer announcing that production has started. In the photo, you see him and co-director Kevin Kolsch.

Pet Sematary does have a great cast that includes Jason Clarke (Winchester, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), who will be taking the lead role of Dr. Louis Creed. Then there's John Lithgow who will play Jud, the neighbor who foolishly introduces Dr. Creed to the area’s many secrets and mysteries.

When talking about the new film, screenwriter Jeff Buhler said their goal is to make it "one of the scariest Stephen King adaptations ever!" He also explained that they wanted to give the story a more grounded feel to it:

"When we first started our conversations, Dennis and Kevin and I really connected around the idea of bringing the story back to the source material, to find a modern telling of the book that really spoke to some of the big scenes and big moments that Stephen King had originally written, and as much as all of us are huge fans of the original film, there are moments that are larger than life and feel borderline campy. Our desire was to tell a really grounded, character driven and psychologically horrific version of Pet Sematary, which in my belief, is the scariest book that King ever wrote."

The film will be an updated version of Stephen King’s 1983 novel which is described as follows:

The road in front of Dr. Louis Creed’s rural Maine home frequently claims the lives of neighborhood pets. Louis has recently moved from Chicago to Ludlow with his wife Rachel, their children and pet cat. Near their house, local children have created a cemetery for the dogs and cats killed by the steady stream of transports on the busy highway. Deeper in the woods lies another graveyard, an ancient Indian burial ground whose sinister properties Louis discovers when the family cat is killed.

The original film and book scared the shit out of me when I was first introduced to them. I had nightmares for weeks after I saw that damn film when I snuck out and watched it as a kid. I read the novel later and that was even more terrifying. I really do hope that this new film ends up being a great and scary flick!

Pet Sematary is set to be released on April 19, 2019.

Great New ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Poster, Behind-The-Scenes Photos, and New TV Spot

Marvel has released a ton of new Ant-Man and The Wasp marketing material! We've got a new poster that features the two main characters shrunken down and heroically walking on the floor of, what I assume is a movie theater. The poster was released by Fandango, it will be given to fans who buy their Ant-Man and The Wasp movie tickets from them.

I also posted a new TV spot for the film that offers a bit of information that confirms exactly when the movie takes place in the Marvel Cinematic timeline. I also included a bunch of new behind-the-scenes photos from the film showing the cast and crew working on the movie.

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink: “Ant-Man and The Wasp.” In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past.

The mission will focus on Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne going into the quantum realm to save Janet Van Dyne, which is what I'm most excited about seeing.

Peyton Reed is directing Ant-Man and the Wasp and it stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michael Pena as Luis, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, T.I. as Dave, Randall Park as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Jimmy Woo, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, and Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost.

Ant-Man and The Wasp will be released in theaters on July 6th, 2018. To catch up on all of our Ant-Man and The Wasp news, click here.
