New Creative Team Will Handle MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS Storyline Beyond the Grid

Shattered Grid is an amazing story in the Power Rangers comics. It will end in August though. After this story, a new creative team will take over and create Beyond the Grid. Comic Book sat down with Shattered Grid writer Kyle Higgins and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo as well as the new creative team consisting of writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Simone Di Meo to talk about a few things we can expect without divulging any spoilers about Shattered Grid.

Higgins revealed that it was scary for him at first when they decided to pass the baton to someone else, but after talking with Bennett, his fears were calmed:

I have to say I definitely was a little scary for a little while thinking about who’s gonna come in, are they gonna want to do what I’ve been building for here, are they gonna want to blow this up? And when Dafna told me that Marguerite wanted to come on board, I think I literally called you Marguerite, right after I got off the phone with her to talk over everything. I could not be more excited for her to come on board and take over. I don’t think fans are really prepared for what’s coming next

He has said that what Bennett has planned is “epic” and he seems genuinely excited about it. This excitement of course makes me more excited to see how things go.

I mean we’re literally sitting here talking about an arc coming up called Beyond the Grid that features an eclectic group of Rangers that is so freaking cool. Like when have you ever seen that before? Everything we’re doing in the book and have built to through Shattered Grid has been about redefining Power Rangers and that’s why I’m so excited. I know what Marguerite’s planning and it’s epic, it’s beyond epic, it’s Beyond the Grid epic. She is coming in and is going to continue what we’ve been trying to do for the last couple years, which is being additive to the mythology and the legacy of Power Rangers.

Bennett seems quite nervous about following in Higgins’ footsteps, but she’s still loving this chance that she’s been given.

Oh goodness, following Kyle’s act, I don’t want to misplace my metaphors here, but those are gonna be some really big shoes to fill. Getting to read Shattered Grid both as a fan and knowing all of the work behind the scenes at the same time just makes it so rich and so powerful. This is sincerely the biggest event that this series in this universe has ever had. I cannot think of a crossover on this scale and it’s been just divine.

I was a huge Power Rangers fan growing up, I saved my toys for way too long way beyond age appropriate. I just adored Trini the Yellow Power Ranger so much, so getting to do this, the idea of getting to go back in time and tell baby Marguerite what she’s going to grow up to do. I would lose my...sugar, if I had discovered that that was waiting for me.

I cannot wait to see what Bennett has in store for fans in Beyond the Grid which will premiere in September. Check out the cover for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #31 below.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Writers Reveal How They Would Make a Great Doctor Doom Film

At a recent event hosted by Kevin Smith, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were asked if it’s possible to make a good Doctor Doom film. They both answered positively and Markus elaborated the problems with his big screen appearances to date and how he would do it:

One: I would do the thing that they never do which is to stick to the comic book and make him the king of his own country and have a big metal helmet on. He looks like Darth Vader. It works in Star Wars, just do it again. They’re like, ‘He’s an American scientist who is jealous of their relationship.’ No! He’s a nut-bag with a metal mask!

I can completely understand the impulse. It’s like, you have to make it relatable. You have to relate it to these characters. You want them all to have a past together. I get it but it doesn’t work because he has to wind up in a ridiculous place unless you’re just gonna put him in a leather jacket and call him “Vic.” You’ve gotta go put on a cape. Either you’re gonna leave yourself the task of getting all the way over to a guy in a cape or just make him a guy in a cape!

I hope Noah Hawley is listening because I imagine this is exactly what fans want from a Doctor Doom film. Not to mention the fact that Markus and McFeely have written the biggest opening and second highest grossing comic book movie ever. It may be worth it to take a note or two from them. Is this how you would want a Doctor Doom film, or is there another vision you have for it?

Allison Janney in Talks to Join Hugh Jackman in BAD EDUCATION

Bad Education is an upcoming film project from screenwriter Mike Makowsky and director Cory Finley. Hugh Jackman has reportedly joined the project as a superintendent who wants to better the school district he works for while embezzling public funds so that he can live the life he wants. Deadline is now reporting that Allison Janney is in talks to join the project as “the school district business manager who is in on the scheme and enjoying the same living large lifestyle while helping him (and her) to cover their tracks.”

The story is based on Makowsky’s high school experience and sounds like it could be quite interesting. Janney and Jackman are both very talented actors, so I’m very interested in learning more about this film. Fred Berger, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Eddie Vaisman, Julia Lebedev, and Oren Moverman are set to produce the film through Automatik and Sight Unseen production companies.

Surprising New Team of Rangers for MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS Includes New Ranger

There’s a new creative team working on Beyond the Grid which is the storyline will follow Shattered Grid. That team consists of writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Simone Di Meo and they seem really excited. The previous team of writer Kyle Higgins and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo also sounded really excited for what’s coming which gives me a lot of hope. During a recent interview with CB, the new team of Power Rangers that will be the focus of Beyond the Grid was unveiled, check it out below.

There are a couple of things to take note of. First, each Ranger is from a different series. You have Magna Defender from Lost Galaxy, Tanya from Zeo, Cam from Ninja Storm, Andros from In Space, Ranger Slayer (WHAT?!?!?!) from the Go Go Power Rangers comics, and a new one for those of us that never watched Super Sentai. That’s a very interesting team. Without revealing anything about the Shattered Grid storyline, Ryan Parrott mentioned that we’ll learn more about the Ranger Slayer in the upcoming Go Go #11.

I will say that the next issue will reveal, Go Go #11 will reveal a lot of information. You’ll get key information as to understand who the Ranger Slayer is, her relationship with Drakkon, and the second part of the remaining parts of the Go Go Shattered Grid part will basically explain why she is who she is. This is the beginning of her story, not the end of her story.

Since we’ll find out more about Ranger Slayer in the not too distant future, let’s focus on this mysterious new Ranger. I first thought it was just the Blue Dino Charge Ranger since I never saw that series, but I was corrected and it turns out that it is the Talon Ranger or Dark Ranger from the Sentai series Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. He was never adapted to the American version of the show though for some reason. We have no idea who this ranger is, or what they’re like, so I think it will be fun to meet a brand new character.

When asked about why these Rangers were chosen, Bennett failed to reveal anything, but simply said:

I am just over here boiling slowly with the desire to just...have you ever seen The Road to El Dorado? The movie? Okay well there’s a scene where Cortez is cracking his knuckles and he goes, “My crew was as carefully chosen as the Disciples of Christ and I will not tolerate stowaways.” And that’s how I feel about how I chose these characters. I’m dying for the chance to defend my decisions so, soon. Soon I promise you,

Well, I’m excited. Shattered Grid proved to me that the Power Rangers comics are actually good and not just a joke so you can be sure I’ll be reading Beyond the Grid as well.

Tom Holland Spoiled JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM For Chris Pratt

My guess is that you read the title of this article and said, “how the heck could Tom Holland spoil Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom for Chris Pratt who stars in the film?” That’s my guess because that was my reaction when I saw a similar headline. The answer? He’s Tom Spoiler-Mouth Holland. I have deduced that Holland has a superpower. That power gives him the ability to spoil anything to anyone. Want to propose to your mate? Don’t tell Holland, or your mate will know before the date that night. So, how did he do it? How did he spoil Fallen Kingdom?

Pratt was recently interviewed by Sirius XM where he told the story:

The first I heard about the plot was from Tom Holland, weirdly. I think I was shooting the sequel for Guardians of the Galaxy, maybe, and Tom was doing Spider-Man on the same lot. Tom, of course, knows [Fallen Kingdom director] J.A. Bayona because of the film The Impossible. Tom was the young guy in that movie...and he’s so grown up now.

He said, ‘Hey mate, I just talked to J.A., mate, he told me the whole plot of the story,’ and I was like, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Yeah, there’s like a volcano,’ and I said, ‘You’re messing with me. He’s like, ‘No, mate, he told me the whole thing.’ So he told me the whole story, so I heard it right from Tom Holland first. And then, when I read the script, I was like, he wasn’t messing with me. It was all real.

No one should ever tell Holland anything even resembling a secret. It will get out. He’s still the best Spider-Man we’ve had though and he’s fantastic so I guess no harm, no foul.

FLORIDA GIRLS Comedy Series From THE MICK Producer Gets Picked By Pop

Laura Chinn has served as a writer and producer on The Mick and has appeared on Young & Hungry among other positions for various other projects. Now, Chinn is going to star in and executive produce a new show she has created called Florida Girls. Pop recently ordered 10 episodes of the show and it could be fun. Here’s a synopsis:

Florida Girls focuses on four girls living in Small Town, Florida who confront their stagnant lives when their only ambitious friend moves away to follow her dreams. It follows the four girlfriends who are partying under the poverty line while navigating very relatable problems as they try to better their situations. Living in a dilapidated beach town full of alcoholics, these street-wise women haphazardly attempt to find self-worth and learn to “adult” in a society that deems poor, uneducated women as valueless. Their backbone ultimately lies within their tight-knit, non-judgmental and loving friendship.

I don’t know that it’s my cup of tea, but I know some people who will probably enjoy this one. There’s no word on when the show will air, but here’s what Chinn said about why she’s excited for this show:

I am so excited to make Florida Girls with Pop. I grew up in Florida and have always wanted to share my wildly fun and truly insane experiences in a state that is so much more than just: Florida Man on Bath Salts Head-Butts Car, Slaps Fire Chief.

Kenpachi Zaraki Gets Cool Fan Art From Naughty Dog Artist

Many fans of Bleach love Kenpachi Zaraki. He’s a boss to put it lightly, and if you read the 1000 Year Blood War arc, you know how crazy his shikai and bankai are. I’m sure many fans will be sad to not see him for more than a few minutes, if at all, in the upcoming movie. However, Frank Tzeng from Naughty Dog shared an awesome rendering of the crazy captain on ArtStation. Sadly, this is only some fan art, but maybe this could lead to a new big Bleach game (one can dream)? I personally would love a 2D Fighter (one that’s better balanced than the Wii game) or maybe a Dynasty Warriors-esque game.

This Fan-Made Pokemon Animation is Fun and Adorable

It’s always fun to see what fans create for their fandoms. Karma Animation recently uploaded a fun Pokemon animation to Twitter. The scene features the original starters, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, and has them get into an accidental fight. Over time, Squirtle evolves into Wartortle, Charmander goes straight to Charizard, and Bulbasaur grows Venasaur’s tree without his body getting any bigger. Oh, you’ll also want to watch the credits as they include stills to show the aftermath of the encounter. Enjoy!

ONE PUNCH MAN Artist Draws Sketch of Mega Man

One Punch Man is an amazing anime, and the character design is a huge reason I love that show. You can imagine my excitement when I saw that Yusuke Murata, illustrator for the Young Jump release of One Punch Man, decided to sketch Mega Man. The sketch is very rough, but the potential is incredible! I would watch a new Mega Man anime using this character design. Maybe bring him in to join Saitama and Genos for a fun crossover.

This Cardboard Darth Vader Costume is Great if You’re On a Budget

Do you ever want to do an awesome Halloween/convention costume, but are too poor to afford anything that looks decent? If you’re in Japan, that problem may be fixed for you. Showa Note, a Japanese Company, is releasing a cardboard Darth Vader costume that looks shockingly good and eco-friendly. The costume will run for only 3,980 yen (approximately $36) so it won’t break the bank. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the costume will be available outside of Japan. Do you have a cardboard costume that you’re proud of?
