Shattered Grid is an amazing story in the Power Rangers comics. It will end in August though. After this story, a new creative team will take over and create Beyond the Grid. Comic Book sat down with Shattered Grid writer Kyle Higgins and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo as well as the new creative team consisting of writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Simone Di Meo to talk about a few things we can expect without divulging any spoilers about Shattered Grid.
Higgins revealed that it was scary for him at first when they decided to pass the baton to someone else, but after talking with Bennett, his fears were calmed:
He has said that what Bennett has planned is “epic” and he seems genuinely excited about it. This excitement of course makes me more excited to see how things go.
Bennett seems quite nervous about following in Higgins’ footsteps, but she’s still loving this chance that she’s been given.
I cannot wait to see what Bennett has in store for fans in Beyond the Grid which will premiere in September. Check out the cover for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #31 below.
At a recent event hosted by Kevin Smith, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were asked if it’s possible to make a good Doctor Doom film. They both answered positively and Markus elaborated the problems with his big screen appearances to date and how he would do it:
I hope Noah Hawley is listening because I imagine this is exactly what fans want from a Doctor Doom film. Not to mention the fact that Markus and McFeely have written the biggest opening and second highest grossing comic book movie ever. It may be worth it to take a note or two from them. Is this how you would want a Doctor Doom film, or is there another vision you have for it?
Bad Education is an upcoming film project from screenwriter Mike Makowsky and director Cory Finley. Hugh Jackman has reportedly joined the project as a superintendent who wants to better the school district he works for while embezzling public funds so that he can live the life he wants. Deadline is now reporting that Allison Janney is in talks to join the project as “the school district business manager who is in on the scheme and enjoying the same living large lifestyle while helping him (and her) to cover their tracks.”
The story is based on Makowsky’s high school experience and sounds like it could be quite interesting. Janney and Jackman are both very talented actors, so I’m very interested in learning more about this film. Fred Berger, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Eddie Vaisman, Julia Lebedev, and Oren Moverman are set to produce the film through Automatik and Sight Unseen production companies.
There’s a new creative team working on Beyond the Grid which is the storyline will follow Shattered Grid. That team consists of writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Simone Di Meo and they seem really excited. The previous team of writer Kyle Higgins and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo also sounded really excited for what’s coming which gives me a lot of hope. During a recent interview with CB, the new team of Power Rangers that will be the focus of Beyond the Grid was unveiled, check it out below.
There are a couple of things to take note of. First, each Ranger is from a different series. You have Magna Defender from Lost Galaxy, Tanya from Zeo, Cam from Ninja Storm, Andros from In Space, Ranger Slayer (WHAT?!?!?!) from the Go Go Power Rangers comics, and a new one for those of us that never watched Super Sentai. That’s a very interesting team. Without revealing anything about the Shattered Grid storyline, Ryan Parrott mentioned that we’ll learn more about the Ranger Slayer in the upcoming Go Go #11.
Since we’ll find out more about Ranger Slayer in the not too distant future, let’s focus on this mysterious new Ranger. I first thought it was just the Blue Dino Charge Ranger since I never saw that series, but I was corrected and it turns out that it is the Talon Ranger or Dark Ranger from the Sentai series Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. He was never adapted to the American version of the show though for some reason. We have no idea who this ranger is, or what they’re like, so I think it will be fun to meet a brand new character.
When asked about why these Rangers were chosen, Bennett failed to reveal anything, but simply said:
Well, I’m excited. Shattered Grid proved to me that the Power Rangers comics are actually good and not just a joke so you can be sure I’ll be reading Beyond the Grid as well.
My guess is that you read the title of this article and said, “how the heck could Tom Holland spoil Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom for Chris Pratt who stars in the film?” That’s my guess because that was my reaction when I saw a similar headline. The answer? He’s Tom Spoiler-Mouth Holland. I have deduced that Holland has a superpower. That power gives him the ability to spoil anything to anyone. Want to propose to your mate? Don’t tell Holland, or your mate will know before the date that night. So, how did he do it? How did he spoil Fallen Kingdom?
Pratt was recently interviewed by Sirius XM where he told the story:
No one should ever tell Holland anything even resembling a secret. It will get out. He’s still the best Spider-Man we’ve had though and he’s fantastic so I guess no harm, no foul.
Laura Chinn has served as a writer and producer on The Mick and has appeared on Young & Hungry among other positions for various other projects. Now, Chinn is going to star in and executive produce a new show she has created called Florida Girls. Pop recently ordered 10 episodes of the show and it could be fun. Here’s a synopsis:
I don’t know that it’s my cup of tea, but I know some people who will probably enjoy this one. There’s no word on when the show will air, but here’s what Chinn said about why she’s excited for this show:
Many fans of Bleach love Kenpachi Zaraki. He’s a boss to put it lightly, and if you read the 1000 Year Blood War arc, you know how crazy his shikai and bankai are. I’m sure many fans will be sad to not see him for more than a few minutes, if at all, in the upcoming movie. However, Frank Tzeng from Naughty Dog shared an awesome rendering of the crazy captain on ArtStation. Sadly, this is only some fan art, but maybe this could lead to a new big Bleach game (one can dream)? I personally would love a 2D Fighter (one that’s better balanced than the Wii game) or maybe a Dynasty Warriors-esque game.
It’s always fun to see what fans create for their fandoms. Karma Animation recently uploaded a fun Pokemon animation to Twitter. The scene features the original starters, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, and has them get into an accidental fight. Over time, Squirtle evolves into Wartortle, Charmander goes straight to Charizard, and Bulbasaur grows Venasaur’s tree without his body getting any bigger. Oh, you’ll also want to watch the credits as they include stills to show the aftermath of the encounter. Enjoy!
Finally! Here's the finished project I've been working on for a loooong time. It was really hard at some moments and I experimented a lot of new things with it, but I'm really proud of the final result. Hope you like it! pic.twitter.com/HAOKTaLCkU
One Punch Man is an amazing anime, and the character design is a huge reason I love that show. You can imagine my excitement when I saw that Yusuke Murata, illustrator for the Young Jump release of One Punch Man, decided to sketch Mega Man. The sketch is very rough, but the potential is incredible! I would watch a new Mega Man anime using this character design. Maybe bring him in to join Saitama and Genos for a fun crossover.
Do you ever want to do an awesome Halloween/convention costume, but are too poor to afford anything that looks decent? If you’re in Japan, that problem may be fixed for you. Showa Note, a Japanese Company, is releasing a cardboard Darth Vader costume that looks shockingly good and eco-friendly. The costume will run for only 3,980 yen (approximately $36) so it won’t break the bank. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the costume will be available outside of Japan. Do you have a cardboard costume that you’re proud of?
