Kazuki Takahashi is most well known as the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh!. VIZ Media has now partnered with Takahashi for a new manga called THE COMIQ. Other than the name all we have is the following picture and the fact that it will premiere this fall in Weekly Shonen Jump.
Announcement: THE COMIQ, from Yu-Gi-Oh! creator, Kazuki Takahashi, premieres in Weekly Shonen Jump this fall! pic.twitter.com/cjQqscMwzP
My guess, and call me crazy, is that it will be about a boy who wants to make comic books. Probably as the artist who draws the comics, but who could the mysterious, totally evil, white-haired person’s role? Of course he’s the antagonist, but how? Will he just mock our main character, or will he just ruin our main character’s life in other ways because he’s jealous?
Trinkets is a YA novel from author Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Netflix wants to adapt it into a series. Also, we have some casting information for the series to share with you! The three female leads will be played by Deadpool co-star Brianna Hildebrand, Kianna Madeira (Bad Hair Day), and newcomer Quintessa Swindell.
Smith will be writing the adaptation along with Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer and here’s a synopsis:
Butler will be portraying Brady, Georgiadis will play Noah, Moore will be Vicky, Oleynik will portray Shawn, Sullivan will be Doug, and Zaga will be playing Luca. Andelson, Meyer, and Smith will executive produce alongside Linda Gase who will also serve as showrunner, Rebecca Glashow, Brin Lukens, and Shelley Zimmerman.
The first two episodes will be directed by Sara St. Onge and the series will also star Brandon Butler, Odiseas Georgiadis, October Moore, Larisa Oleynik, Larry Sullivan, and Henry Zaga.
ABC has committed to a put pilot for a new single camera comedy called Woman Up. The series comes from Zoe Lister-Jones who stars in Life in Pieces, Liz Meriwether who created New Girl, and Jason Winer from behind the camera of Life in Pieces and Single Parents among others. Lister-Jones wrote the story behind Woman Up and will serve as executive producer along with Meriwether, Winer, and Jon Radler.
It could be fun, and I do enjoy Lister-Jones. It will all depend on who else stars in my opinion. Are you sold on it yet?
Star Wars fans will finally be able to sympathize with Han Solo when he said, “I thought they smelled bad on the outside.” There are now officially licensed Star Wars candles. They come in three sets, one for each of the films in the original trilogy and I’m flabbergasted at the scents they’ve gone with.
A New Hope:
The Empire Strikes Back:
Inside of a Tauntaun
Yoda’s Cooking Pot
Han Solo Carbonite
Return of the Jedi:
Death Star Destroyed
Who chose these? They sound more like gag gifts instead of something I’d actually want in my house. If you are so inclined, you can pre-order them now. Each set is available for $36.99 (less than $8 per candle), or you can buy all three at a discounted rate of $91.99. If you really love these candles though, you can get limited edition versions that come with an engraved plinth and presentation box, complete with magnetic closure for $52.99 a set, or $127.99 for all three. If you live in the UK, you can get them even cheaper by going to GeekStore! What scent can you not wait for? I actually wouldn’t mind smelling the destruction of a Death Star.
Annapurna is going through some changes right now which include getting rid of some projects. One such project is the movie Hustlers that will star Jennifer Lopez. If you were looking forward to the film, do not fret, for STX has picked up the title, so you will still see the stripper heist film.
In addition to the change of studio, there is a new cast member! Constance Wu from Crazy Rich Asians and Fresh Off the Boat will be joining Lopez according to Deadline.
Hustlers will take place in the late aughts (2000s) when the US was dealing with a big financial crisis. Director directed by Lorene Scafaria said this about the film:
“The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture. Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world.”
Wu’s role has not been disclosed, but it is a lead role according to sources.
Limetown is a mystery thriller podcast and Facebook wants to adapt it into a series. That’s right, Facebook has given a 10-episode order to the podcast adaptation and Jessica Biel will star as Lia Haddock. Lia is “a journalist for American Public Radio who seeks to unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of more than 300 people at a neuroscience research facility in Tennessee.”
It’s a really interesting podcast and I hope it translates well to the screen. Limetown creators Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie are writing the adaptation and will executive produce. Biel will also executive produce alongside Michelle Purple from Biel’s Iron Ocean Productions. Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg will also executive produce under Midnight Radio, and they will serve as showrunners. Adrienne Erickson will serve as producer.
If you’re a longtime fan of the 2015 podcast, you’ll also be excited to learn that the long-awaited second season is finally being released. You just have to wait until October 31, 2018. That’s right, it’s being released on Halloween! Also, on November 13, Limetown: The Prequel to the #1 Podcast will be released.
Most of the time, people like to draw Pokemon with cute hats and outfits for the different holidays throughout the year. Reddit user PageofSean has upped their game though. They have redrawn Bulbasaur to fully embody Halloween. Instead of the bulbous plant on his back, the dinosaur Pokemon now has a Jack-o-lantern that grows as he evolves. The marks on his forehead are also changed to resemble a skull. I love this re-imagining!
Disney is still announcing casting for the live-action Lady and the Tramp that will debut on their streaming service. Today we learn that Janelle Monáe has jumped on board as Peg, the pound dog who was voiced by Peggy Lee in the original animated film in 1955. Monáe joins the voice cast that already consists of Ashley Jensen as Jackie, Justin Theroux as Tramp, Tessa Thompson as Lady, and Benedict Wong as Bull. Kiersey Clemons and Thomas Mann will play the humans, Darlin and Jim Dear.
The story Follows "a pampered cocker spaniel named Lady whose comfortable life slips away once her owners have a baby. When, after some tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose and out on the street, she is befriended and protected by the tough stray mutt Tramp. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady’s household, threaten to keep them apart."
Lady and the Tramp is being directed by Charlie Bean with a script written by Andrew Bujalski. No specific release date has been mentioned, but we’ll probably see it in 2019.
I know Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam, the second Black Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Many of you will know him from his various voice roles including Ichigo Kurosaki in the dub of the Bleach anime. He took to Twitter recently to announce that there’s now a dubbed version of the live-action film.
What’s even better is that it has most of the dub cast returning. Unfortunately, Michelle Ruff who voices Rukia did not return with Bosch himself not knowing about it until after the fact. If you don’t like movies with subtitles, or even if you just really like the dub cast, you can now watch the adaptation of Bleach in English.
I have no idea, I assumed we were all reprising our roles. I didn’t find out until I saw her tweet. Unfortunately those decisions aren’t made by us
I personally really enjoyed the film. It does make changes, but if you can get past that, it’s really enjoyable. You can read my full review if you want more details. What do you think of the adaptation? Have you seen it yet?
Although I may not be excited about the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, I do hope that it does well. One key part of that will be getting the right actors. While the original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, have said they will have a diverse cast, we have no idea who will be a part of this. However, Yoshi Sudarso may be hinting that he wants in on the project. Sudarso will be known by Power Rangers fans as Koda, the Blue Dino Charge Ranger. He recently posted on Twitter a picture of him with a scar that will be infamous to Avatar fans as the same kind Prince Zuko has.
Now, there’s a lot that this picture could be about. First, it could be him just having some fun. Second, he could just be throwing his hat in the ring as many actors like to do these days on social media. Third, could he be working on an unofficial video? Behind him is artist and martial artist Osric Chau and the amount of work that I’m sure they went through to get that scar on Sudarso’s face probably means it’s more than just a quick job to make a plug. Whichever way you look at it, I’m sure we can all agree, the scar looks awesome and I think Sudarso could make a great Zuko. He might be too old to play Zuko in the time frame of the original series, but if they did a series a little after the events of the original, he could be perfect.
