I am getting really bothered by the Star Wars “fan base.” I put fan base in quotes because I don’t think any real fans should be so vehemently hateful towards anyone in their fandom. Star Wars still has a great fan base who love the franchise and aren’t total jerks to others, but it’s that small portion of jerks that a lot of other fans bothered by. It’s this same group of jerks who bullied Kelly Marie Tran who played Rose Tico in The Last Jedi to the point where she left social media. Fans should never do that. it's totally ok to disagree with each other and debate the things that we like and don't like about the franchise, but bullying isn't the way to go. Stephen Colbert, who has been a Star Wars fan since about 2 weeks before A New Hope was released decided to create a trailer for the upcoming Episode IX especially for those bullies who dare call themselves fans.
I’m a huge fan of The Seven Deadly Sins anime that is on Netflix. I haven’t had the chance to go back and read the manga, but now may be the time to do it. Humble Bundle is offering up the first 22 volumes plus some other manga including some volumes of Ghost in the Shell, Ajin: Demi-Human, and Inuyashiki for as low as $15. If you go up to $20+ you’ll also get a healthy amount of Battle Angel Alita and some exclusive wallpapers and sneak peaks as well as a video of Yukito Kishiro drawing Battle Angel Alita. That is several hundreds of dollars worth of manga for as low as $20!
The great thing about Humble Bundle is that not only is it pay-what-you-want, but you can choose where the money goes. You can decide how much goes to the creator, Humble Bundle, or even charities. Hurry on over and get your manga for the summer!
We have a new set photo from Titans that shows us what the Bat Signal looks like in the show. Between this photo, the appearance of Jason Todd, and the call sheet that was leaked, it appears that at least one episode will be pretty Gotham/Robin heavy. There’s no word on whether we’ll actually get to see the Caped Crusader (probably not), but it’s looking like we’ll get a decent look at his home city for at least one episode. How do you think Gotham will be used in Titans?
Titans does not have a release date, but it will premiere on DC Universe when the streaming platform is live.
I have been enjoying the Shattered Grid storyline a lot. Go Go Power Rangers #10 just came out recently and is the latest chapter in the story which will continue in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #28. However, we already have a preview for the following chapter, GGPR #11 and it looks like it will be just as intense as #10 was. We’ll get to see Kimberly on Kimberly action as the Pink Ranger fights the Ranger Slayer while the other Rangers are using the Dinozords to combat the ferocious (and totally awesome) Gravezord. Looks like we may learn more about the Ranger Slayer and Matt as well. Check out the preview below only if you’ve read #10!
When we first heard about casting for Doom Patrol, many of us thought they would just be regulars on Titans. Then we found out that they were getting their own spin-off series after appearing on Titans and it looks like it won’t be too long after Titans before it comes out.
Omega Underground reports that DC is currently eyeing Atlanta for filming this summer. I think this could be a great project (fingers crossed), and I hope that there’s more crossover than just an episode or two in Titans.
While a lot of the casting has been done, Omega Underground does say they are still casting for multiple rolls, including Cyborg. Doom Patrol is set to air on DC Universe, but no release date has been mentioned, although some rumors suggest the service will be open starting in August.
Are you excited for Doom Patrol and Titans?
Big Hero 6 is getting ready to release its TV series and there’s a great new clip that features Aunt Cass. I loved Aunt Cass in the film and can’t wait to see more of her in the series and it looks like we’ll see her take on a TV chef at some point who is named Bolton Gramercy. Bolton will be voiced by Gordon Ramsay and the event will be judged it seems by Yum Laboughé who has the voice of Alton Brown. Aunt Cass will have to outdo Bolton Gramercy in making a crème brûlée that includes some outrageous ingredients. This show has some potential, so I’ll probably give it a go for at least a few episodes. Are you excited to see Hiro and the gang again?
Big Hero 6: The Series had its premiere event on Saturday, June 9, 2018, and Sunday, June 10. Did you watch it?
Maleficent 2 is in production at the moment and a new member of the cast has been announced. Judith Shekoni from Breaking Dawn Part 2 has been cast as Shrike who Variety describes as “a character who befriends the titular anti-hero, Maleficent[.]” Based on the name, I’m guessing she’ll be a mythical creature and not a human, but I could be wrong.
Shekoni will be joining the big names of Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay, and Harris Dickinson. In case you missed it, here’s the synopsis that we have:
No official release date has been set for the film.
So, maybe this is news to me, but did you guys know that you can request content for Netflix? I know I’m not the only one who didn’t know until recently as it seems to have to come to light starting with this tweet in which a customer in the Philippines tweeted out to Netflix, asking them to add a movie to their service and Netflix saying, “You know the drill.”
You know the drill: https://t.co/G11xj04UWP— Netflix Philippines (@Netflix_PH) June 4, 2018
Suffice it to say, I’m pretty sure we all agree with Chelsea Peretti who responded with the following tweet.
LITERALLY NO ONE KNOWS THAT DRILL https://t.co/WBq2hJMuS1— Chelsea Peretti (@chelseaperetti) June 4, 2018
If there is a TV show or movie that you’d like to see on Netflix, it turns out that you can make requests on this page. Unfortunately, just because a title is requested, it does not mean that the title will be added. Netflix does have licensing deals that help dictate what can and cannot be added which is one of the reasons why titles are taken off the service after some time. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a million things to request.
Back Street Girls is a manga comedy series where three Yakuza have to become girl pop idols. I will admit I’ve never read the series, but it sounds ridiculous to me. I recently shared that it would be adapted into an anime and we now have some promos of what we can expect from the anime. Unfortunately, it’s all in Japanese with no subtitles, so I cannot tell you what is being said, but I imagine that it’s explaining the premise of the show. The first one is narrated by men and the second is narrated by women, but both have the same clips. The show will premiere on July 3 in Japan. Will you be watching this? Do you hope it makes its way to the west?
Masashi Kudo recently tweeted out his own take on Harley Quinn to celebrate her getting her own spin-off and for appearing in (and probably being the focus of) Birds of Prey. The artwork was cool, but not as good in my opinion as an earlier sketch he did of the character. He has a new addition though and it’s Poison Ivy. I think this is way cooler than the Harley Quinn we recently got. This take really embraces Poison Ivy’s seductiveness and really merges it with her planty-ness. I hope he keeps giving us great renditions of characters because these are awesome.
