Things I Want From The POWER RANGERS Sequel

We recently learned that Hasbro plans on making a sequel to the 2017 Power Rangers film instead of rebooting the franchise again. I found this announcement to be bittersweet as I quite enjoyed the actors for the main 5 characters and I liked the direction I felt things were going with the characters and lore. However, I hated the design of pretty much everything. Goldar was the biggest disgrace, but the Ranger suits and Zords were pretty bad, too. Plus, I just didn’t like Elizabeth Banks’ Rita. I thought it was an interesting choice to make her the old Green Ranger, but I didn’t like the kind of crazy that Banks’ Rita was. So, what do I want Hasbro to do with the sequel?

First, they have to introduce Tommy and by the end of the movie, he has to become the Green Ranger. Now, I think (and I’m sure many are in agreement) that a spin on the Green with Evil arc would be perfect. Rita has manipulated Tommy, trusted him with her old Power Coin, and put him under a spell, so he would be a willing servant of evil. However, by the end of the film, the Power Rangers will break the spell and he’ll join them. I’ve heard of other great ways though to utilize Tommy though, so I won’t be picky. Also, as a side note, I know people are going to debate whether Tommy should be a boy or a girl in the movie. My two cents are that Tommy should be a boy simply because they didn’t mess with the gender of any of the other Rangers. That being said, I won’t be totally upset if they make Tommy a girl.

Second, redesign almost everything about the Rangers. You could make minor tweaks to the suits, so they feel a bit less Iron Man, and become a bit more familiar to fans. Stay with the armored look instead of spandex though (I loved the way they did the armored suits for the first Power Rangers movie). Also, make the Zords look better. At the end of the day, some of the Zords could use minor tweaking and they’d be great like the Sabertooth Tiger. Others, like the Mastodon, need a bigger overhaul in my opinion so that they actually look like the dinosaur they’re based on. Hasbro, if you ignore the first two redesign requests, please don’t ignore this one. FIX GOLDAR! Making him mindless melted gold was the biggest sin of the 2017 film. Goldar is supposed to be very formidable and one of Rita’s generals. Make him fierce and make him more than just poor CGI gold liquid that looks like poop.

Third, we need more Ranger stuff. Give us more (and better) action scenes where the Rangers are morphed! On top of just adding action scenes though, there are some things that can be played out from here. Are the Rangers constantly fighting monsters on a daily basis like the show? How does that affect their lives? What are they going to do when they graduate? Has all been quiet since the first film? If so, what have they been doing and are they still friends? Do the people of Angel Grove still see the Rangers as saviors and heroes, or a blight that destroys half the town any time a monster shows up? These are great questions that focus on the Ranger aspect and could provide great storylines. Another Ranger aspect I’d love is to explore the lore more. The first film began to establish some interesting things such as Zordon and Rita being Rangers once upon a time. Give us more about where these powers come from and what they can do! Plus, the lore could lead to helping explain the changes to the suits and Zords. Maybe the Zeo crystal changes those things.

Finally, the villains. As I mentioned earlier, I did not like Banks as Rita. I just didn’t like how the character was written, portrayed, and designed. However, maybe they can fix that in a sequel. They can also have her scheming how to get back at the Rangers and maybe that’s when she starts recruiting monsters like a smart and fearsome Goldar. Of course, a lot of my friends are wanting to see Lord Zedd and I don’t blame them. He was great in the show. I would personally like to see Rita become a better villain before introducing a new one. That being said, maybe Hasbro brings Zedd in and he’s what helps Rita become a better villain. If done well, Zedd would be a great addition, but I’m too worried that he would be a disappointment.

There are some of the things I’d like addressed in the Power Rangers sequel. What do you want to see in the sequel?

Sony’s Marvel Spider-Verse Gets an Official Name and It’s Very Lackluster

Sony has the rights to roughly 900 Marvel characters and has already announced plans for at least 4 movies beyond Spider-Man: Far From Home and Venom. These will probably not be the last ones we hear about either.

Now, geeks all over have been calling this cinematic universe they’re trying to build the Spider-Verse or something similar since the characters all stem from Spider-Man. However, it sounds like Sony actually has a name for their universe.

Are you ready? It’s "Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters" or SUMC. I was very underwhelmed by that name. The name doesn’t have to be flashy, but it could be shorter or have a better acronym.

What’s your favorite name cinematic universe name? Do you think Sony will be able to actually build a successful cinematic universe?

It’s not unheard of for companies to continue a film or film franchise as a TV show instead of making more movies. This allows them to sell more merchandise without constantly shelling out billions of dollars. The latest properties that may get this treatment are from Fox. Namely, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Ice Age, and Night at the Museum.

Now, I can’t speak for Wimpy Kid since I’ve never seen the films, but as far as the other films go, please don’t do it, Fox. Night at the Museum is has been a fun and enjoyable franchise. Ice Age was also fun, but with how many sequels there were, I felt it was already losing appeal.

I feel like most of the franchises that make the move from the big screen to the small screen are just disappointing. Hopefully, Disney will be able to put the kibosh on these projects, but if they get started before the Disney deal is done, they might not. But, I guess they could always end up on Disney's streaming service. They are looking to fill it with content!

Do you disagree with me? Who would you like to see star in each of these series since you know they’re not getting the same stars as the movies?

Lord Drakkon Has a New Look on the Cover for MIGHTY MORPHIN #30

Shattered Grid is coming to an end. We have Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #30 and then the finale and that’s it. When last we saw Lord Drakkon, he started putting the rush on finishing his goal to access the Morphing Grid. He was also in pretty bad shape as his body was tearing itself apart. However, it looks like he may have worked some things out as he can be seen on the cover of MMPR #30 with an awesome new costume!

Now, we don’t know if this is his final form or just an improved version like Cell when he got Android 17. You can see that instead of white, gold, and green, Drakkon’s color scheme has changed to black and gold with some more orangish hues by the emblem on his chest. Speaking of his chest, his shield underwent a redesign as well to be a bit more menacing. He looks ready to murder some rangers as his throne room has piles of Ranger helmets from all different eras and colors with the Green Dragon Ranger helmet under his foot. Talk about an amazing cover! I can’t wait to see what happens in the issue with all the Rangers launching an assault on Drakkon’s fortress. Do you like the new Drakkon?

MMPR #30 releases August 15, 2018.

Fan-Made INFINITY WAR Trailer Puts a LOGAN Spin on the Film

Logan was praised more than probably any comic book movie before it. I think part of its success came from the amazing trailers that came out. Well, someone has decided to give Infinity War a new trailer; Logan-style. The new trailer focuses on Thanos’ philosophy and some of the inner turmoils he deals with in Infinity War and is set to the hauntingly beautiful “Hurt” cover performed by Johnny Cash. If you need me, I’ll be rewatching the movie now.

MAN AT ARMS: REFORGED Made Escanor’s Divine Axe Rhitta

I love The Seven Deadly Sins but am really sad that the dub for the second season hasn’t been released yet. However, I’ve still heard awesome things about the Lion Sin of Pride, Escanor through comments sections. That’s why I got excited when I saw the guys on Man at Arms: Reforged, decided to make Escanor’s axe, Divine Axe Rhitta. This is possibly the most requested build I’ve seen them do as the first 15 seconds are full of putting up comments requesting it. Normally, that part of an episode is about 2 or 3 seconds, sometimes up to 5 seconds on the more requested builds. This build does not disappoint. They build a massive axe that must weigh a ridiculous amount and it looks amazing! Hopefully, the second season dub will come out soon so I can see this thing in action. Which of the Sacred Treasures should they do next?

THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS to End in Roughly One Year

Fans of The Seven Deadly Sins may be sad to hear that the creator is planning to end the series in about a year. In an article with Da Vinci magazine, series creator Nakaba Suzuki said that he plans to end the series after 40 volumes. This means we’re in the home stretch as volume 32 was released in June and volume 33 is set to release this month. The article also mentions that Suzuki believes the ending will be worthy of a shonen. I’m sad that it seems to be coming to end in the not too distant future, but the thing that makes me not go crazy is that Suzuki revealed that he’s had the ending planned since he started the manga. I think that is one of the key components to a great story. Whether it be comics, manga, TV series, etc. I think everyone should be required to know exactly how it will end before they’re allowed to start.

Is it time for the series to conclude, or do you wish it was continuing?

MCU Veterans Adam Pally and Neal McDonough Join SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

We just learned that everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog would be voiced by Ben Schwartz. Now, we know that Adam Pally and Neal McDonough have been added to the cast. The catch is that we don’t know what their roles are. Maybe they’re Tails and Knuckles?

One interesting thing is that Pally and McDonough are both veterans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pally was Gary the Cameraman from Iron Man 3 and McDonough was Timothy “Dum Dum” Dugan in Captain America: The First Avenger. These two actors join James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Jim Carrey, and of course Schwartz. Who do you think these two actors will be?

I'll be honest, I'm worried about this movie mostly because it will be a live-action CG mix. I wish they had just done an animated film. Let's be honest though, this will still bring in a good chunk of change.

Sonic the Hedgehog is currently slated for release November 15, 2019.

Idris Elba’s New Film Project GHETTO COWBOY Involves Redemption Through Urban Horseback Riding

I know a lot of people are hoping Idris Elba will be the next James Bond. It may still happen, but it looks like he has a different project to work on for now. Deadline reports that Elba is set to star in and produce a film called Ghetto Cowboy. This film will be based on the novel by Greg Neri of the same name. If you’re unfamiliar with the novel, here’s a brief synopsis:

Twelve-year-old Cole’s behavior causes his mother to drive him from Detroit to Philadelphia to live with a father he has never known, but who soon has Cole involved with a group of African-American “cowboys” who rescue horses and use them to steer youths away from drugs and gangs.

It certainly sounds interesting and inspirational. I wonder who will get the role of Cole. Elba will be directed by Ricky Staub who also wrote the screenplay alongside Dan Walser. Ghetto Cowboy will be produced by Elba’s Green Door Pictures as well as Jeff Waxman, Jen Madeloff, Sam Mercer, Tegan Jones, and Walser.
